51 Custom Tele/Nocaster on ebay
Hi guys and gals, This is my first post here and I would like you opinions on a custom made 51 Tele/Nocaster relic that's up for bids on ebay. Would like to know if its worth a bid or should I try for a Fender made reissue? I like the blackguard design. You all have a wealth of knowledge and I'd just like to know what you think. Many Thanks! Steve. P.S. Not too sure about posting the URL but will give it a shot.

Its basically a partscaster with relic-style finish. Calling it a Telecaster or Relic is not correct, it is telecaster-style. Its a partscaster. Looks nice, although IMO an ash body would be more authentic and better. Once it goes above $500-600, I'd just prefer a real Fender guitar, like a '52 RI, which you can often find for $700-800 if you are patient. A home-relic from a luthier in New Mexico...do you know his name?
Claims like this below just turn me off, how the heck would he know that??: I've noticed that more individual time was spent on this guitar than the other Custom Shops. |

Yeah, I have a hard time thinking of it as a Nocaster where the body wood is alder. Kind of like saying a violin is an accurate recreation of a Stradivarius, and then mentioning it's made out of pine.
Later Teles were indeed made with alder, but not the Broadcasters, Nocasters, blackguard Teles (unless it was a one-off sort of thing). |

Do the 52 RI's all have ash bodies? Is there a difference in tone between these two wood types? I have also seen 52 RI's dating from the 80's thru 2005. Is there any particular year or years that is prefered by Tele players or are they all basically the same? Sincerely, Steve

Hey guys. Thanks for the advise. I didnt bid. I'm going to hold out for a 52 RI. I have seen a few that look nice. Is there any advise that you have about buying one? Are there any model years that are better than others?? Again, thanks for the heads up. Hope to be able to pick your brains again. Sincerely, Steve.
