The very first example of this guitar was provided by Fender for the recent TDPRI Give-away, so folks around here have been talking about it for quite some time. So I guess you need to excuse yourself for not being one of "us". Actually I have a much better idea. Chill out a bit and ask questions. We're an incredibly respectful, helpful, although sometimes wise-cracking bunch of folks who prefer questions to sarcastic posts.

You poor guys. Now you've gotta live with the fact that if you'd made it to the TDPRI just a few weeks earlier, YOU could've been the first person ANYWHERE to own one of these. Honest guys, I'm just trying to make you feel good about being here.

Seriously though, Paul does a annual fundraiser and, in the process, gives away some of the most butt-kickin' prizes on the planet. Just make sure you hang around until next December and he'll have a whole new lineup of eye and ear candy!

I'd be interested if they'd make one with vintage-spec necks as well. But with that board and frets, not my cup of tea. It shore is purty, though.

Wow...why not Jack? I like just about everything other than the modern neck profile, but I realize that's totally subjective. Those Duncan PUs are what the Donahue PU is based on, so I'm thinking they must sound killer.

Where is this guitar made?

The Lite Ash Tele is made in Korea?? I am so clueless about some of these newer models. That's where my Schecter PT was made. Maybe I should hold onto it till the Korean models become credible then everyone is clamouring for them, especially the early models.

Thanks for the education.

i'm stationed in korea right now...so i'm trying to find my way to the fender digs here. from what i've gathered they DO NOT sell any of their stuff here in korea. basically all you can find here is imported american stuff. needless to say its a bit more expensive here...if i can find their warehouse maybe i can gather some more info. i wouldn't mind just getting my hands on some parts (particulary those Birds Eye Maple fretboards! )

maybe they have tours

but i'm not trying to hijack this thread....seriously, that Koa looks pretty dang fantastic....i'm gonna have to think hard about this one....

It has appears on Musician's Friend before it appears on the Fender website. I checked the Fender site to get the model number ........ hence the country of origin but alas, it's not there yet.

you know, I spent some time at Yongsan Army Base in Seoul, and was less than overwhelmed by the selection and prices that I found there. Even the Korean-made axes were wicked expensive...

BUt back to the thread at hand... I still dig the koa :D

the shopping is great over here. for everything EXCEPT guitars that is. the conception is you can find sweet deals on guitars over here but i haven't see it. and i've been here for 3 years.

you can find cheap guitar but they really are "cheap". i guess they save their good guitars for export.

although i did find a "Gretsch" double neck (standard 6/baritone) for $200 i'm gonna pick up.

The Korean guitars we get here are usually just for export... tho a few have been known to fall off the truck on the way out. heehee.

or... that same factory will sometimes sell the same stuff with different logos, etc. (I haven't seen a Fender done that way however)

Fender keeps a tight grip on things. It helps to look often, know where to look, and speak Korean, and even then it's a matter of luck.

I saw some Korean Squires there a few months back. Every bit as cheap and nice as the ones we get here. Danos are all over the place.

If you go to Nakwon, make sure to go upstairs too.

god, yes, they are all over Nakwon. Can't swing a dead cat without hitting a Dano in Korea. They were made there, moved to China, quality sunk, & moved back to the beloved homeland. The latest ones are a real bump up in qulity and playability. The ones i played were surprisingly good. They are getting about $250-$350 for them depending on the model and how good you haggle.

cheers,

Lite Ash teles were around in Korea too, they even had MIM stuff (thinlines, HW 1) but they are really expensive. '69 Thinline was about $900.
