The tone knob is definitely my friend. I control tone and partly volume with it. Since I changed the wiring to the Fess Parla mod. the tone control really works great.

I didn't get your joke. You didn't get mine. It happens on the 'net sometimes.

A lot of people don't fiddle with the tone knob.

No offense to ANYONE but for me the tone control is the most useless knob on my tele's. I have my tech at the local shop rewire it as a volume knob for the rear pup. That's just what floats my boat.

I just put the tone control back into my Tele. I really like the sound of the neck pickup without a tone control.
In fact, I modded the tone control that I put back into it to have no load at full on and leave it full on. It's just there if I need it.

I do use the volume control and like that it rolls of a bit of the highs. I also use the tone controls on my Les Paul and ES-135. I feel they're required to get tone out of Humbuckers.

There's so much difference in volume and tone between the neck and bridge pickups, I dont know how anyone could switch back and forth without adjusting something somewhere!

I set the amp's tone controls to where it sounds good for the neck pickup, then roll off the guitar's tone control when I switch to the bridge pickup... which ends up being close to halfway.

3/4 or so is my usual starting place. It gets adjusted from there, usually never below 1/4, sometimes all the way up.

i think as someone stated earlier, this depends on amp settings as well, but for the neck pup mainly no tone (bypass) but for the bridge pup (for the most part) i roll both the vol and the tone back about 1/3, + or -. it seems the vol setting on these beasts effects the tone alot as well. that is the subject for a thread i was thinking about starting actually, how volume settings effect your overall tone

I have it about 3/4 of the way up - any more than that and it sounds too ice-picky.

I have a No-load for my tone pot, and if I keep my tone on say 8.5, that makes my tele sound like a great standard tele twang. But if I put it on full blast, bypassing the tone control altogether it has a semi esquire'd, beefier tone, with almost a touch of a boost. As per the great thread about caps that was goin a couple days ago, I experimented with some different values and materials, and put a .1uf cap in my tele, and god does my tone pot work amazing now!!

Why, how do you set yours?

No problem, Jake D - thanks for the apology. That's cool......

And my apologies to you for calling you "Dude" - I realise how rude and disrespectful that is.....
