Strat Pick Guard on a Tele

Picked up this Walnut Squier body on Ebay. I was wondering what it might look like with a Strat Scratch Plate
[IMG][/IMG]

And with the hard tail bridge and pick up that came with the body
[IMG][/IMG]

Oh yes. That is a Strat neck
[IMG][/IMG]

I can feel a project coming
[IMG][/IMG]

Got a ashtry bridge and some other pick ups to play with as well

Looks good and I was considering this recently myself!

Now what I'm after is a pickguard with the upper bout part of a strat pg, and the other side like a tele pg..

Guess I could try making a template....

Looks like the old Fender Bullet from the 80s

The pickups and bridge are in exactly the same places on strat and tele.
With a couple of adjustments here and there ...

You can get blank pickguard sheets and cut your own.

Or perhaps cut a strat upper bout profile into a tele pickguard?
But there's a bit of meat missing top and front.

I've just been doing some tracing round pickguards and making bits up, got one that looks right to my eyes,

Now to sneak it through the laser cutter at college...

I never really paid any attention to the Bullets before - they're the original Stratele! :)

Woah... that makes me think of the old "rabbit-duck" drawing. Is it a strat? Is it a tele?

I don't like it. Sort of brings to mind something wrong like marrying your cousin. Only bad things can come of that!

Ugly. Makes me realize that a good part of the iconic Tele design is actually that cut-off pickguard.

Looks more like a Strat-lover's version of a Tele to me. I think one of the most important parts of a Tele's tone is that big metal bridge and having the strings run straight through the solid body. You start messing around with that formula and you just end up with a totally different instrument.

To the OP: how do you plan on covering the back side of the Tele control cavity? The other Strat-O-Teles on here look like they were routed for the Strat style pg.

I was thinking I might cut out the pick gaurd and fit a regular control plate

I am also leaning towards cutting out for a ashtray bridge, normal Tele setup just the Strat guard trimmed around everything. This would leave 2 small holes in the gaurd and 2 old bridge holes exposed plus the 'thru' holes have to be moved so filling and painting may be the way
