Relicing a neck

Does anyone here know of a proper way to relic a maple neck?

I've seen several topics relating to relicing and they all seem to apply to relicing the BODY of the guitar, but I'm interested in the neck. Does anybody know?

Neck relicing...

Seriously, I've seen people sand them down in the usual wear spots on the back and in between the frets on the fingerboard...to imitate the wear that would normally come from fingers over years of use...then rub everything from motor oil to shoe polish into those unfinished areas to dirty them up.
Do some searching here "relic neck" and on google or yahoo.

I'm no fan of relics unless they're naturally worn from playing...but best of luck to you...someone else will chime in here I'm sure that has actually done it.

Hmm, I suppose that would work.

I've been letting the nails on my left hand grow long so that they dig into the fretboard and once it becomes marked up in one place with fingernail marks I chip away the finish with the pick. I was just wondering if there was a faster way to do it.
