Mid '70s Fender Catalogs/Ads

Anybody have any scanned or know where they can be found? I vividly remember drooling over a '76 Fender catalog in 1976 and dreaming! I didn't get my first Fender (a '72 natural finish Tele) until September 1979. I loved Fender's '70s ads, as well.

If you can be patient

I know my brother has a few from the 70s stashed away. I have no idea what specific years he has, but I remember looking through at least 2 and they were both from the 70s. I'll be seeing him in just a few hours, so I'll ask about them, get them if he still has them, then scan them when time allows.

I have a 1980 or '81 catalog from Music Emporium if I remember correctly. It was the mail order branch of Vennemann Music in Rockville, MD. Interesting to look through, but all the pics are black and white.

Even back in the 70s when I first began playing and even before I began playing, it was the Blonde Tele with the white guard that was always pictured in some ad in Hit Parade magazine that tripped my trigger. Funny, do I hear the Statler Bros singing Moments to Remember??

Cool!

I can definitely be patient. That would be so cool if you could scan some of those things, I'd love to see them, and I'm sure others here would, as well. I remember Veneman Music very well. I grew up near Springfield, Virginia (in Falls Church) and I used to go to Veneman Music all the time. Like you, the first Tele that caught my my eye in person was a blonde one with a white pickguard. It was out of my price range in 1977 (I was only 14). Anyway, please let me know whenever you scan the catalogs, that will be very cool.

The best I can do...

...A Strat ad from 1980. Alas, the suggestion went unheeded. :(

Note the Fender Thick-Skin ™ high-gloss finish!

Thanks for sharing this. Sorry you didn't get one in 1980!

Are you looking for those funky/cool ads where they used the guitars and amps as parts of airplanes and dragsters, the "Alice in Wonderland" type of ads, or just anything and everything Fender? I've got the 1981 catalog from when I bought my first new Telecaster that I may be able to scan some pages from. It's still the CBS era but it's regular catalog pics and descriptions, not those ads with the wild art work.

Have you seen http://www.vintaxe.com/ ?

You have to pay a fee to access all the catalogs they have ($5 for one month), but they do show that they have the 68-page 1976 Fender catalog. Look under the Information section.

Disclaimer: I've only looked in the free sections of the site, so I can't vouch for the quality of the scans.

I think all of the "You won't part..." ads are from the 60s. I had Baron Von Ripoff, and 2 others from the 70s until our house fire a couple years ago. One of them was Alice talking to the caterpillar, heavy drug overtones, and I don't even remember the guitar/bass being advertised!

Thanks for the walk down memory lane!
