51 Nocaster (new, custom shop)

Wow! I'm surprised how nice these are ! I just got one on ebait. Awesome fat neck, excellent fret work, finish , pickguard, pickups, all really really excellent. And it's a nice medium weight. This guitar will definitely satisfy your jones for a blackguard! I will take a look under the hood and post some pics later.

They are EXCELLENT really, all the way around! I like the current CS Nocaster pickups compared to the older "Cunetto" type, and they are good. But I'll let you in on a secret. If you put in a set of Hamel Standards it will not only feel like an original Blackguard, but sound like one too. Maybe Better!

And it's really a Fender. 8)

The guitar is fantastic. This makes a very strong case for not spending 50+ on that one that just sold on ebay! (But I admit I wanted it...)

Right on Sunburst. My Nocaster was built when they were still using up some of the 'Broadcaster spec' bridge pups from the Cunetto series, the ones that are around 9.3k - 9.8k resistance. I swapped it for a new Nocaster bridge pup which works much better and has a smoother range, but still with all the bite.

What's a Super Relic?

Hi: I read you said Super Relic. What is that and is it a Tele? Would love a photo if possible.

Thanks

Super Relic

"Super Relic version has extreme body wear and most of the finish removed from the back of the neck."

It's the Custom Shop's designation for the next step beyond 'Relic.' Yes, mine's a nocaster, but it can be a strat, jazzmaster, yada, yada, whathaveyou too. They make a few and just don't advertise them as such. You can either order one like that or, of course, a reputable dealer will order a few on hand to keep in stock. It's much more beat, played looking/aged than the relic models. Not everyone's cup of tea, but neither is the aged concept either. To each their own. It's a beauty to me. I like the necks the best, basically bare on the back.

Do the Nocaster Relics have the "blend" control?

Mine is wired in the "modern" way. I prefer it that way, but if I had an old blackguard with the original wiring I guess I'd live with it. I am really impressed with this guitar. If you like the early fat necks you will love these. It's really well put together and such a sweet sounding and looking tele. Here's a short clip using the neck pickup clean with a little reverb:
