Its not the size of the headstock, its the pickin' of the fingers! (Or something to this effect)

big head

I thought the reason for the big head stock was they could cut 2 necks out of one piece of lumber

look at a large head ..you can trace out another in the opposite direction side - by side.
Am I making any sense?

Man I never ever liked the big head stock Fenner guitars.......till I got my 73. I swear it's one of the best sounding guitars I have ever had........ and I'm old and have had a few. When I first got it ......... I didn't think it would work for me ....... it has a pretty shallow neck. The frets were gone, so I had it refretted with 6100's and Pleked at Joe Glazer's shop. It plays and stay's in tune real well......... Merry Christmas all...... I hope I post this picture correctly.... cause I've screwed up before. Peace....... Lou

Had a 72 Reissue Tele w/big Strat headstock....

...wish I still had it!

But I have a question: what causes the headstock to darken more than the neck on the older ones??

The headstock on those is nitro and the rest of the neck is poly. I think they did it that way because the decals they were using didn't work well with poly. It's a cool look, I think. Real "70s" relic-y.

To me it really depends on the guitar- a '72 Deluxe looks better with the big head instead of the Tele headstock, IMO.

I wish I had it back.

Lou, that looks like a pretty good gig you got there. Don't let that Issacs feller lead you astray. :D :D

A few years ago I introduced my son to music with a set of drums, still taking lessons. Last year his band teacher asked if he was interested in playing electric bass in the school band, he jumped at the chance, 2nd set of lessons. About 6 months ago he started fooling around with my guitar. He told me in one conversation that the big Fender headstocks were cool, so this Christmas I got him one of the Sunburst Squires. He made up his Christmas list but didn't come right out and ask for one, I can't wait to see the look on his face.

Considering that '73 Deluxes are going for $3-5K+, some people must really like the large pegheads! If memory serves, these were not the most desirable models back in the day. When did they start going for stupid money?

It is hard to be impartial when judging the big headstock... it screams 70s, and I think that's why I love it!

    Nice pictures guys!!

    Crazy Prices!!!

I love the Tele Deluxe. My re-issue is my fave guitar, and thankfully it was under $700 new! I simply can't believe the prices the originals are going for these days, they're crazy!!! I had a co-guitarist in one of my
