Check and see if you are logged in!! PLEASE READ

On Sunday I installed a new version of our operating software. With this upgrade everyone should be automatically Logged OUT of the TDPRI.

Because you can do everything but post without being logged in, if you're not a frequent poster you may not even notice that you are no longer logged into the page.

The easy way to check is to look at the menu bar near the top of the page. If you see the words "Log In" then you are logged out and didn't know it.

Another way to know is that the "lights" that show new posts don't "light up" when you look at the main index anymore. These graphics use your session cookies to determine what forums have received new posts since your last visit.

If you have trouble logging in the please read the post at the very top of the is forum to find an answer to your problem.

Thanks
Paul Green

I don't think you understand. We didn't lose anything. Everyone can still log in and be logged in automatically. What happened that the changes included changes on the pages that control the log in process. When those pages change then every browser will automatically be logged out. Not every visit. Just once.

However, many people are just not aware they've been logged out by this update. So, if you look at the number of "visitors" on the page it's jumped considerably. Folks that were automatically logged in for months are no longer logged in and they don't realize it yet.

When and if they realize it then they'll simply log in again -- once.

That's all it is. I've been getting emails from folks that wonder what happened to the "lights" on the forums. So I made this announcement.

This update was comprised of hundreds of small changes, corrections, security fixes and even spelling fixes. It came out 3 to 4 weeks ago and we were using version 2.0.16. An in-between version, 2.0.17 came out about 2 months ago and just wasn't worth applying. But this update was 2.0.18 and the folks that create the software said everyone better do it.

I put it off for 3 weeks because I knew it would log everyone off -- I tested it on the GDPRI first so I knew what it would do.

Then yesterday the software folks announced that some sites around the world had been hacked... but not if they had the newest software. So, if finally gave in and installed it.

It only took 4 hours of my Sunday.
Thanks
Paul Green

It didn't log me out? It did on my home PC last night, however, it did not today on my work PC. Even though I was logged in at home, it still shouldn't have kept me logged in with my work PC with the two different IPs.

Oh well. :)

If you set a cookie then the different IPs don't matter.

It matters to the 3 other forums I frequent. Also, they are different computers alltogether. :?

Are those phpBBs? If you set a cookie on each computer, it shouldn't log you out by default (maybe Paul has changed this). The configuration of the client doesn't matter.

To keep this relevant to TDPRI, I was not logged out when he said I should have been.

I visit 3 other forums, all phpBB, and if I am starting fresh, ie logged out on every computer. I have to log in on each computer. I might log in at home but if I visit the same page on my work PC, it will show that I am logged out. Oh well... just a quirck I suppose.

Even if you have two computers sitting next to each other on the same network you would have to log in with each computer. The system is not recognizing the IP address or anything other than the browser cookie on your computer.

Logging in at home does not follow you to some other computer elsewhere... not even at home.

The TDPRI isn't even recognizing the computer it's recognizing the browser on your computer. So, if you have two browsers on one computer you would have to log in on both of them.

Also, if at any time the auto login stops working on your computer then you have to delete the tdpri.com cookies on that comuter and re-login to fix it.

Interesting, because recently this page has taken to logging me out every time I leave, forcing me to log back in every time. I go to plenty of other similar forums that don't do that. Any clues?

OK... I stand corrected. But somehow I have got two parallel cookies both working without re-logon right now (well, ever since I use the TDPRI in fact).

Are you cookies switched on? Do you tick the box to stay logged in?

No it doesn't. I'm not sure why this is happening again. It did this earlier in the year. I started to dog it down the other day and got too busy.

One of these days I'll get to it.

This would apply to you directly... I think. Log out of the TDPRI. Delete all cookies in your cookie list that have both tdpri.com and www.tdpri.com URLs. Close your browser. Reopen your browser go to the TDPRI. Log in and check the Keep me logged in button. That should take care if it.

Been doing this a while (I run the McInturff forum) and have tried all the obvious fixes. Not sure what's up, and I'm not hassled by having to do it every time. I've just been meaning to ask if others have had this problem and when I saw this I figured they might be connected.

To be sure I cleared the cookies after logging out and can log back in with IE. But now after posting a message, the function that brings the post back to the screen is no longer automatic. I have to click to get back to the post.

Thanks Paul. I missed that and thought maybe it was something I needed to do on my end of the connection...
