How can this be new
What's up with the truss rod near the head. Down in florida they write differently that in California, I guess. Here we say $3000. In Florida where this guy "is" they write 3000$. But not everybody can be the same. Also, isn't it common practice to actual describe the item you are trying to sell?

I am by no means an expert at distinguishing teles.. but...
The Bridge seems off... Not saying it's not a Fender bridge... it doesn't appear to fit correctly... The knobs seem wrong.. Those look like generic black knobs.. not even fenders... Custom sticker... seems wrong to me... just something not right... Again.. I am no expert... just a "hunch"...

No way !!
That's no more a Fender than my Les Paul is !
Body shape is completely wrong. The decal is wrong too, Telecaster is much more bold than it should be and also a lot bigger. Etc. etc. etc.

Looks like a 78 to me bridge and knobs arent right everything else looks ok.
The seller has zero feedback probably doesnt know how to write an ebay ad.

I'm not an expert either, but how many people are out there forging 3-bolts?
Now the auction itself may be a fraud, and there are several key identifiers there... 1) "3000$" ??? - Sounds like someone from England. 2) First auction, zero feedback 3) No description 4) No reserve/low minimum bid, etc. 5) Talks about a BIN price, but does not give that option. However, this is where you can truly find a good deal sometimes, if you're willing to do your homework with the seller. A lot of folks would skip the auction altogether, and so may miss out on a good deal, if it is legit. If.

I'm with Mark, looks real to me. Body shape looks right for 73-82. Decal looks right to me for that year(s). Tross rod is correct for custom II. Most people would say its a '78 because of the S8 serial number, but they used those in '79 too from what I understand.
The bridge isn't original- someone posted a guitar with a similar bridge once before. I think they're from the days when people were into the extra mass= sustain thing. $3k is too high, but then again:'77custom

The 'bullet' truss rod is correct for this model. The body and neck MAY be real, but there are many non-original parts, like the bridge of course.
I'm no expert but overall, it doesn't look right to me. The pickguard is odd. The way 70s Tele are appreciating in value, and the demand for them, I wouldn't be surprised to see forgeries. |

Decal is fine
Knobs are correct for 78-on Truss rod bullet is fine Pickguard appears correct Another small clue is the size of the tuning peg bushings. They varied in the 70s and these are correct. Bridge assembly is very much wrong Nut is not original Finish looks a little suspect, but you to have inspect a guitar regarding the finish. Relying on pics like those for finish questions never works out. |

Just as an example, here's a few pics of what I think is a Yamaha copy from the late '70's / early '80's. I bought this on Ebay as a cheapo beater a few months back. It has a plywood body that has been painted many times, but other components resemble the model in question.
![]() ![]() Sorry the pics aren't better but I just happened to have them handy in my photobucket folder.

Hey - what keystroke do you make on a North American keyboard to make that symbol anyway? I just copied and pasted above.
