Tele Alert-Wed PBS Special Rick Nelson with James
Folks this Wednesday on PBS at 8:00 EDT is a special on Rick Nelson. James Burton will supply the guitar sounds. I grew up in the 50's (I don't look my age though) and James was a major influence on my playing. I watched the Ozzie & Harriet show to see his guitar playing. Check it out. JB's body of work is endless and incredible. Shel

Seriously though, thanks for the heads-up, I'd love to see this. Like Michael though, I'm sure my local version of PBS (all 1 channel of it) won't be running this. Cripes, I haven't even seen Austin City Limits in over 10 years! Here's to hoping they pleasantly surprise me.

Unfortunately my local PBS isn't running that either. Thanks for letting us know nonetheless. :D

But they are showing Roy Orbison and Friends tonight. :) Is the Rick Nelson show on something like American Masters or Great Performances?

Buffalo, NY / Toronto, ON
For anyone near Buffalo, the show is on tonight (Tuesday) on WNED. Be prepared for the fundraising between tunes:

Found it---1 a.m. Thursday morning in Pittsburgh. :(
Why do they do this??? Zam Fir and the magic of the pan flute, the Irish Tenors for the gazillionth time (or some other crap) gets primetime while ACL and other Tele-friendly music programming gets the wee-hours treatment. Sorry. Rant over.

Re: Tele Alert-Wed PBS Special Rick Nelson with James
This special was on two nights ago in Central New York, and, interestingly, also tonight at 10:30 EST. It is fund-raising week here.
I caught maybe the last twenty minutes when it was first on. I was disappointed not to see or even hear a mention of James Burton. I will honestly say that Rick's three sons do a (IMO) very good job of "Garden Party" at the end of the special. I will be watching tonight in hopes of seeing JB, though. Greg |

The Orbison show is a celeb-fest. Jackson Browne, Bonnie Rait, KD Lang all sing backup. Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, and Bruce are also backing Roy. And of course, James handles all of the heavy guitar duties (with his trusty pink paisley Tele). The audience shots show Kris Kristoferson, Billy Idol, Billy Crystal, etc... Okay, mybe I didn't get the Rick Nelson show, but the Orbison was fair compensation.
