Roy Buchanan's last video 1988

http://www.propellihattu.fi/RoyBuchanan1988.avi

I downloaded this video-to-dvd transfer from the net and made it into a smaller avi file. I'll be hosting this 700 Mb avi file for a week or so. It's definitely worth the long download for all Roy fans here! Here's a description of the video by the guy who transferred it to dvd:

"This is the last known Video of Roy Buchanan and Roy is on fire showing off his new guitar known as the Blues Master by The Fritz Brothers. This is the Very Raw and uncut Version of Custom Made. I have that version also. This is a must for Roy Buchanan Lovers and Guitarist such as myself. I do not have any art work for this but I did make some chapters. This Video was made about 5 months before Roys Death. Roy shaved his Head about 2 weeks after this Video was made for what that is worth."

It downloaded in about a minute. And played the first 25 minutes of it fine.

I also gave the link to a Buchanan fan from Oulu, that said he had actually just sent you an email, selling a 1971 tele... it's a small tele world we live in. :D

How many Fritz Bros.....

Buchanan guitars did they make? I know George Harrison used one for a while (he is playing one in the Real Love video), and I think Gary Moore has a double cutaway version.

Has anyone played one?

You can burn it on a regular CD rom disc and watch it with an avi (divx) capable DVD player. Or you can use a pc media viewer (Windows Media Player, QuickTime) to watch it on your computer without burning it.

Yes indeed! He sent me a couple of pics of it, and it's a blond beauty! Featherweight at 3.3 kilos too. He's asking 2600 euros and I'm seriously thinking about it.

Small world, smaller Finland :-)

Buchanan video & Guild T-250

Taking a while to download... Estimated 4 hours. Oh well. Anyway, FWIW, I have a 1986 Guild T-250 that's supposed to be a Roy Buchanan model. Some net sources say he was not overly happy with this guitar. It is very solid, but the neck is too thin and flat for me so I have set it up for slide. I will play one song on this guitar at a Christmas party gig tomorrow.

I figured that would be the case. Just so you know it would only be for my collection and not for dupication for personal profit. I hate when people do that.......

You can convert any file type to dvd-video with Nero Express. I do it all the time.

Thanks for the fresh Roy. Can't wait to watch it tonight!

I have had that on VHS video tape for a few years. The unedited version of the "Custom Made" video. Roy at the Crossroads club in Bladensburg MD, March 1988. Demonstrating the Fritz brothers tele guitar. Some audio from that session is on "Malaguena" also.

The Guild ...

...is featured in a dvd I picked up from a guy on Ebay- it had EMG's, and it has black electrical tape over the "Guild" logo on the headstock. I've read elsewhere Roy was unhappy with it, but, if so, why did he continue to play it?

You can download a free program that allows WMP to run these files. When I first tried to use it to see this video, a popup screen suggested I needed a plugin and gave me a link. Once I downloaded the plugin, it worked like a champ. I believe if you go to MS's site and do a search you'll find the software you need.

Cheers,

Please keep the file up. My connection dropped and my file isn't complete. thanks

If you have trouble playing this, search for VLC on google. It's a great video app, it'll play stuff nothing else will.

I'm a little confused. I bought that video right when it first came out, still have it, and it IS very 'rough', simply because Roy wasn't really an eloquent speaker or good at demonstrating the many different positions, so they had to edit the HELL out of it to make it usable as a sales item, but reading these two quotes, it sounds like there is some 'other' version out there.

Can someone please clarify this point?

Thanks! :)

This is what I know also... I wonder if you could get me a screen shot?

Using wmp, I'm getting the following error message:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found.

This after a 4 hour download...any ideas?

Thanks for posting this link.
I am once again reminded of what a great player Roy was.
What an amazing advertisment for a guitar. I bet you if Roy was alive and did something like that today, there would sure be a lot of TDPRI-ers buying it.

There is an unedited version. Shows warming up and multiple takes of the various songs & segments. I got my copy off eBay from the same guy that produced "Malaguena" by Roy. If you are a big Roy B. fan and in the DC area you can figure out who it is.

same here...I had the same error message, I downloaded the latest divx player and it now plays ...

Thanks for sharing!

The video immediately reminded me of an old friend of mine - ... a tele player, in a band I was in, used to emmulate him (always had a vest on, with a similar hat and goatee - he was a good player - this was back in the late 70's.)

Windows Media player works fine.

I use a prg called kmcodec138 what it does is it installs all the codec so you can play any filetype. It also replaces real player and Quicktime so you dont need those anymore it plays those files thru the media classic player.

I have been using it for awhile and there isnt 1 video file I cant play and see and hear perfect.

DO a search or if you cant find it let me know I'll hook ya up.

Hey Freewheeler...

Thanks so much for the clip. You did good.

I'm especially interested in Roy's last year or so.

So again, I really appreciate your generosity.
