I get it!
I promised to let you all know if I did "get it":
After last weeks threads I went out and bough a double feature CD with Jeff Beck, featuring the "Truth" and "Beck-Ola" albums. So as promised: Yes, I get it! 8) Geir :)

Welcome...
...to the JBAS (Jeff Beck Appreciation Society). I think he is one of the living guitar legends, and the man just won't give up his exploring of new techniques and ways of expression.
But, I'll have to say, the times I've heard and seen him playing together with blues players like B.B. King & Buddy Guy, I've been disappointed. I don't see him as a blues player, even if he has recorded great blues (as on Truth). I'm glad you get him. I get him, too! :D 8) |

Well, after recieving a couple of bootlegs of Jeff's group from 68-69 era, I'd have to say that he indeed knows how to play the blues with the best of them. That was so long ago, and he seems so determined to not look back. As a result, I think he may have lost some of his sense of the finer points of great blues guitar playing. He wasn't always like that though. Those early shows were even better than the "Truth" and "Beck-Ola" albums.
OTOH look at what he did with the "Crazy Legs" tribute to Cliff Gallup. He was just spot on with that stuff to the point being a copy-cat. So obviously he has no trouble playing in a more traditional style. Who knows what ol' Jeff is thinking?!? BTW I really enjoyed his last couple of albums, although I hate techno-electronimo stuff. He kept it interesting for me.
