Shameless plugs for stuff that works
I just finished a 3 hour test drive of my P Bass project that I'm thrilled with so credit where credit is due ....
Warmouth sent me a wonderful and light one piece alder body. Great workmanship and they had the wood. At the time Tommy didn't have anything wide enough for a one piece body. Their tortoise pickguard was first class too.
USACG. Tommy outdid himself with the quartersawn maple/Brazillian rosewood neck. Said this was the hardest piece of maple he'd had, and after drilling and reaming the headstock for tuners, I believe him. Absolutely stunning, and since I was cloning a 62, the Brazillian was icing on the cake, and it fit Warmouth's neck pocket like a glove. I have not found this to be the case with guitar bodies and necks from these guys.
Seymore Duncan makes a great sounding vintage P bass pickup. Warm and clear like all you James Jamerson wannabes (myself included) would drool over.
ReRanch. You too can do great finish work with Bill's products. Takes a lot of time and effort, but it isn't rocket science. Sanded the front two times before I got the sunburst right, and this was about my tenth body ( I kinda have lost track exactly). Bills paint is first rate, but don't forget the respirator!
Gotta go stand in front of a full length mirror and play some more. Good thing the family is out of town.
