Saw Gary Allan last night...(tele content)
Wow! I knew I really liked Gary for a long time, so seeing him last night was a real treat and only reinforced his place in my book as probably the best main-stream country artist today.
Of course I was really happy to see his "Tomkins" Tele (the one that looks like the bottom side of an algae covered boat). My girlfriend knows I'm a tele maniac and about jumped out of her seat when she saw it to say "That's a Telecaster isn't it!" Well, everytime she correctly points out a Tele, I have to give her a big hug and a kiss. Then my buddy next to me (who knows nothing about guitars) kept commenting on how cool it was. Gary himself was an excellent performer. Although he had a lead player that was slingin a strat all night, Gary looked to take a whole bunch a leads himself. Not to shabby either. You could hear the differences in tone between the strat and the tele very clearly which kept a smile on my face all night. He forgot a few lyrics here and there. Most notably the last verse on "Songs About Rain". He started singin the first few words of the second verse, stopped, and said nothin but "Oh ____." I loved it!

I saw him at the Executive Inn Rivermont in Owensboro, KY. It was in their exhibition center, so I was able to get up pretty close and get a pretty good look at the Tele. The fret board looks to be that same green as the body. How do they do that? Stain? Paint?
