Country pickers - who uses a wound G string?

Curious...(well heck, that's why we're here)

You country players (flat pickers or chickin' pickers), do you use a wound or unwound G string?

And, importantly, why?

WOUND OR UNWOUND

Big Lug:

I use a plain G on my electrics. Two reasons. 1) better for bending. 2) I play a lot of double stop leads and the balance is better with the B & E. For accoustic I use a wound.

UNWOUND

I've used unwound for 30+ years now - seems to sound better. Same on an acoustic.

Main reason ? its what comes in most of the packets

Often Wondered ?

On Questions like this one & many others...why do we always assume, that everybody on this board, plays Lead ?...I'm not pickin on anybody (pun unintended)...but a lot of folks sing, or front a band...and just use a Tele for Strummin..or might be strictly a Rhythm player...in some of those cases, I would think a wound G (I know) would be better suited for that kind of playin. I think one reason you see so many singers in all forms of Music use Teles, is because like an Acoustic..they are simple no frills Tools, that work. And if you use some .011s or bigger for Rhythm...ya ain't gotta tune em every 5 min. or so...
