A nod to the old blues guys...

Been listening and playing ALOT to some of the old Blues guys: Little Walter (Muddy Waters, Luther Tucker on guitars), Sonny Boy Williamson (Muddy, Jimmy Rogers, Robert Jr. Lockwood on guitars), and Muddy himself. These guys are sweet!! There's even some tele's in there! If you are in a rut, and need some new inspiration, or even if your not completely familiar with this work, check it out! 8)

And BB when he played a tele

Very early BB King is right up there with the best. KBR turned me on to his early stuff, and man he could make a tele sing. Howlin Wolf slays me..

yes, Vietnam Blues by J.B. Lenior is a stunning collection of tunes, he's got the "Mojo Boogie", "Talk to Your Daughter", "I Feel So Good", 24 tunes in all..........recorded in the early 60s but it sounds timeless. Outstanding guitar playing, singing and songwriting.

Vietman Blues is an amazing album, should be in everyones blues collection.

Oh yes

Those old Chess recordings are fantastic. 8)
They are great listening when you need some inspiration, when you need to get that spirit back in your own playing.
(Lenoir's J.O.B. rec's are also great!)

I haven't strayed too far from those guys

Just the most moving music ever as far as I'm concerned.

Lots of people try to dress it up, and once in a while I catch myself going too far as well--but the power of those older recordings is just awsome.

Today I got a record called: The chronological Howlin´ Wolf 1951-1952! Memphis recordings!
It´s on a french(!) label called classics.
I got most of the songs before, but some on vinyl, still some where new to me.
So I am happy today! :D

Those early Howlin' Wolf sessions just KILL me! That's where some of the first intentionally distorted guitar was recorded (with the exception of Junior Barnard with Bob Wills). Wolf's vocals and harmonica are in great form too. I bought a cassette many years ago titled "Early Sun Sessions", or something like that. I love all his later stuff with Hubert Sumlin on guitar as well. I love ALL Howlin' Wolf.
