The Jelli-Pick?

I just saw an ad for this: It's part nylon pick, and part wires (guitar string?) comin out of it; sorta looks like a metal afro-comb.

The ad says it helps you create a lot of cool sounds like mandolin, and resonator, etc..

I'm just askin, cause I'm startin to move away from effects (only a phase shifter, and a wah-wah left in my arsenal). I'm really startin to appreaciate what I can get out of my setup, with out using a lot of effects; using different strumming/picking techniques, a lil harmonic tapping etc.. It just sounds so much better to my ear, though YMMV, and its just my lil old humble opinion.

So if any of you got some experience with this, let me know (cause it cost's $10.00! may not be a lot to some, but for a pick?). Does it work with an electric, or only an acoustic?

Enquiring Minds wanna know!

I saw this too

in GP last month.

It wasn't tested or anything (like they would be testing picks...).

I'm curious too and hope to find one at a store sometime.

jellifish

they've got a web site www.jellifish.com that show some clips of it in action and how to order ($9.95) i'm kinda scared of the wires coming out of it (might scratch the finish by accident) so i tried this: i took a super-thin
.60 mm Jim Dunlop nylon pick, cut some slits in it with ordinary scissors, then clipped off every other end of these little slats. pretty close to the same effect. really cool 12-string-ish sound. all of a sudden my tele was a rickenbacker 12!

Strum Rose

Dunlop has/had a product called a strummer (formerly the strum rose) that was composed of several pick 'blades in one unit that also gave a twelve string type of effect.

I'm going to try to make one!

A little goo and an old string. Worth a try. I'll let ya know.

Yuk....very messy. It's drying on the counter now. 1" E strings sandwitched between two old picks. Goop holding it together. We'll see if it works.

Mixed results....

OK...it's dry. Got too much goo on the strings - but I can see the essentials of what this gizmo will sound like. I used crazy glue on the outer edges to seal it completely. I tried it **very carefully** on my JD tele - sounds cool. You have to hold it right to get a sweeping effect across the strings so it sound properly. It's very metallic sounding as would be expected. I'll hit it later with a file as the string ends are still rather sharp.

If you're wondering...here's a way to check it out for free (well if you're willing to sacrifice a string and 2 picks). However, I'm sure the real one is finished better and they've rounded the string ends better to keep you from scratching up the guitar.

There's also this little thing called the "Strummer". It looks like a big pick with about 7 little picks built into it.
