Dang does that guitar sound good-(Good Bad & the Ugly mo

Does anyone know just how to re create that guitar sound and effects on that move ( Good Bad and the Ugly)
I bought the DVD at the Grocery store for $9.99

I've watched 5 times... I love the electric guitar in it!
The tone sound like a Tele with some old school effects..

It's killing me I want to try to get that sound for kicks and giggles--

anyone know how to cop it?

Heya Buck !

i've loved that music since i first heard it on the radio....it took quite a while for the movie to play in my tiny Montana hometown.....i found a soundtrack cd of the Leone movie music Morricone (?) composed....

my personal way of doing it is with a Tele, switch in middle, i pick close to the saddles, fairly heavy reverb.....but i'm probably waaaaaay off base, & i've no idea who played the session, or what was used

I've no real idea either, but I'd guess a Gretsch into a Fender amp. Listen to Richard Bennet, some of his tones on "Themes from a Rainy Decade" are reminiscent of the spaghetti western soundtracks.

When I saw Ennio Moricone & his band this summer the guitarist used a Strat for the "classic" spaghetti western sound & a 335 for other pieces.
Most of the classic Cinecitta Spaghetti Western scores were recorded in Rome (which Ennio almost NEVER leaves) with Italian orchestras,my wild guess is that no Italian musician in the 60's could really afford a GRETSCH so an Italian copy hollow body or an "original" guitar like this one (I bought it a few years back) was used

I can get the EXACT same sound with lots of treble & reverb by plugging this guitar in a Twin Reverb...

one way..

a cheap easy way, get a danelectro "chicken salad" vibrato pedal. Like $30 sumthin bucks. A cheesey little efect pedal, but cheesy in a good way. Turn up your reverb and try it.

You can do the Morricone sound with a Tele, although I do like to have a trem for some slight dips & waves. Most likely, it was some cheap Italian guitar -- if you're really interested in that type of thing, check out Eastwood Guitars. Lots of good spring reverb is important. I suspect that the fuzz sound comes from a Mosrite Fuzzrite; it's certainly not a Fuzzface or Big Muff type. There are a couple of good Fuzzrite clones -- the one I've got is the VintageFX FuzzRiot, which has a more versatile tone control than the original. There's also the Ashbass Fuzzbrite, which I've heard good things about, but with which I don't have direct experience.

One you get the trem, verb, and (if desired) the fuzz, the guitar can be, if not anything, lots of things -- guitars with lipstick pickups, bright P90s, Strats, Teles -- I'm sure a Gretsch would be nice.

Also, if you really dig Morricone's stuff, and would like to hear some more guitar-oriented reworkings of his spaghetti Western soundtracks, check out "For A Few Guitars More: A Surf Tribute to Ennio Morrcone."

I'm now listening to the soundtrack to "Once Upon a Time in the West" (my favorite!) thanks to you folks. :D

On subsequent soundtracks (For a Few Dollars More [Per Qualche Dollaro in Piú]; GBU; OUaTitW) the principal guitarist was Bruno Battisti D'Amario, possibly on a Jazzmaster. Both guitarists are still active today."

WOW!!!!
Thanks so much..

This was the real secret---"Pick Back by the Bridge"

the others were heavy Verb... and medium vibrato

I was able to enjoy an hours worth of praticing Spagetti Western guitar for the first time in my life.. Thanks!!!

I was able to flip pickups on the Tele... they all seemed to provide different shades...

I now understand the birth of Surf..

If ya speed this stuff up -- ya get surf..
LOL! :D

The Vanduras

If you like that Italian Western style check out The Vanduras CD In the Dark. The band is the father/son duo of Gary and Geoff Branddin. Gary plays steel guitar in the Blue Hawaiians and the music for Spongebob Squarepants.
Lot's of cool twangy textures. It's like the soundtrack to a movie that hasn't been made.

The movie COLLATERAL

Check out the movie COLLATERAL with Tom Cruise. Listen to the music in the Korean nightclub "Fever". It's kinda a Korean version of a Spaghetti Western against a electronica /drum machine dance track. The guitar definitely harkens back to Sergio Leone soundtracks.

Then of course, there's the 'Beat At Cinecitta' CD's, 60s and early 70s Italian spy, comedy and other assorted movie soundtracks. Very 60s-mod, with fuzz guitar, horns, 12 string guitars, weird arrangements, very goofy and eccentric sounding stuff.
