thanks for the pix, Mark; I wanted to go but couldn't, but I did talk Tuesday with my friend (childhood guitar teacher) Lou Pallo, I see you got one shot of him w/ Billy Gibbons.
With any luck I'll see Lou at his gig in NJ this weekend. Gotta do another Lester show soon though, he still has to sign my R6 (he already signed the R8 but I actually like the 6 more). cheers, Jon |

WHAT A GREAT TIME!!!!
That night at the Iridium was even better than Brent imagined it could be. Les Paul is the most delightful man, he is so sweet - that's the best word I can think of to describe him, I feel as though I have known him for years and years. He sat down and spent close to two hours talking to Brent and I, he is the kind of person who listens to everything you say with his undivided attention and then remembers it. When the day comes that he has to leave this earth, I can tell you for certain I will sob my eyes out. No ego, nothing.
The man has accomplished and done everything a person in the music field could possibly accomplish, and more than Brent could ever do in his lifetime. The man invented multi-track recording - that alone is so huge, not to mention lifetime grammy awards, lifetime emmy awards, life time oscars, many inventions that can now be seen in the Smithsonian Institute, and some that will be put there on his passing. He invented echoplex in a cave behind his house. He can still play - and with feeling!!!! He personally knew Lenny Breau! He had to drag him out from under a pier in Atlantic City and sober him up once before a live show they were doing together. (which is so sad). He knows everyone WELL. He has worked with everyone. He was laughing about the time that he, Wes Montgomery, James Burton and Chet Atkins were standing on a corner in the heart of New York City waiting to cross the street, and people driving by were running their cars into each other trying to get a look!!!! And the tdpri was very well represented by Mike, Bruce, Frank, Chip and Ian. They are really great guys! I enjoyed meeting all of you. Thank you so much from Brent for the great compliments you gave him. At the CMA Awards Show I can't tell you how many people told us about how they had tried to get in to see the show but the entire club was too filled up to let another person in. Just to mention a few of the people turned away were Vince Gill, Michael Rhodes, John Hobbs, Colin Ray, Jerry Jones (maker of the baritones), Billy Currington and Frank Rogers and his wife Jessica (Brad Paisley's producer, they are friends of ours). Some of those in the club during the 10 o'clock show were session musicians Rob Hajacos, Kenny Greenberg, Jerry McPherson, Jerry Douglas, and several of Faith Hill's road band, Scotty Emerick, Willie Nelson's manager, Phil Vassar, Tony King who is also a member of the tdpri (tadeo) and plays with Brooks and Dunn. We will always remember that wondeful experience and our GREAT trip to the Big Apple!!! New York New York - It's a Wonderful Town!!!!!! |

Looks like Brent has returned to his old tele. I guess no matter how good the Valleyarts Brent Mason model is and how close a copy of his tele, it just is NOT the Telecaster he has been playing all those years.

These signature models are made for other people who would like to have something just like a particular player. No artist that we know of that has a signature guitar plays that. They continue to play their original guitar. It's just a copy for the masses since most people can't build a guitar to spec like you guys on this forum! We have been told that Brent's signature model is the best selling artist model they make. And although it is a great guitar, sound wise it is not that similar to Brent's. You can't reproduce the sound of 30 year old wood! |

He understood in his heart that what had just happened would probably not happen again due to Les Paul's age and it was precious and bittersweet at the same time. Obviously Les was feeling the same way when he kissed Brent on his ear. I love that picture and thank goodness that small moment in time was captured! Thank you again Fullerplast! I am so glad you grabbed that shot. It totally captures the way Brent and Les were with each other that evening, admiration on both of their parts and genuine affection. He was so nervous before that show. He was nervous two weeks before that show! I have never ever seen Brent nervous and I couldn't believe it. He has always said that he feels more comfortable on stage playing and singing than he does in any other part of his life and has never had stage fright or jitters of any kind regardless of the stature of the player or singer he might be playing with or even if there are thousands in the audience. He doesn't practice before a show or pace or get ready early - nothing. But this had him really concerned and he didn't know how to handle it. I didn't even realize how nervous he was until about an hour before the first show when Brent told me he thought he might be sick. He said he was just praying he could get through it and find himself back in our hotel room at the end of the night. When he started playing with legends like Chet Atkins, George Benson, Reggie Young, Larry Carlton and Mark Knophler he was so young I don't think he really grasped the magnitude of what he was doing and then after getting to know them and continuing to work with them on and off through the years he just felt really comfortable with them. But having matured twenty years later he fully understood the hugeness of sharing the stage with Les and his awesome sidemen. And then when the time for the show arrived Les made it so easy for him and so enjoyable that I could see all that nervousness drain away from his face. You could see how happy he was to be up there with him. He was so thankful to be praised by someone he respected so very much and also so moved by Les's playing, the amount of feeling and beauty he put into every note. Also, Les's tone was spectacular. Brent was really elated after the shows were over that night and really thrilled about all these pictures posted. Thanks so much everyone. |
