The Halle Berry of Teles
Now as many of you know, I took a perfectly good, brand new vintage style body and neck - scooped in last year's fund raising draw - and produced a Broadcaster replica. I'm delighted with it, many others have shared my enthusiasm, whilst others simply don't get the relic idea.
Anyway, against all my better judgement for all things traditional (and relic-ed) Telecaster, I have to confess I've fallen in love with another. This for me is the Halle Berry of Telecasters. It's featured in this months UK magazine Guitar Buyer and I'll end up having to buy another copy of the magazine because I've drooled all over it! (Yes, drool!). This is absolutley gorgeous. When I get mine (oh, I do wish!), I'm going to her Halle. Right I'm off for a cold shower. Enjoy. ![]() For those that need more info, it's produced by a German luthier called Nik Huber (http://www.nikhuber-guitars.com/), and yes, he did study with Paul Reed Smith. But what a beauty! Peter

Not to my taste--I can't stand that flamey top plastic coated dye-job PRS look. AAAA flame-top blah blah blah. The tele, (and the strat and the p-bass) for me , is great because it's about function more than looks. I mean, I like the way teles look, but the way they look is utilitarian and functional.
Also the double bucker thing...shudder. It's nothing like a tele--take it away!!!!! :D |

Thats a pretty guitar but not a Tele or even close to a Tele more of a Les Paul with Tele body as I see it.
As far as Halle rules here prevent me from saying what I REALLY think about her. Lets just leave it at that. Keep this in mind too. I once went out with a beautiful woman who was a model and did magazine shoots she was stunning looking but as dumb as a cow and couldnt hold a conversation about anything. Then I went out with a sorta plain old country gal who could talk about anything would watch wrestling with me let a fart sometimes just a cool gal. I've really never heard a good sounding beautiful showpiece guitar. |

Right then
I have to say that although I actually like the look of it, I don't really think it's a Tele, there again, I don't class a 72 Thinline as a Tele either, if you called it a Hallecaster maybe J.D. would get one. Nik Huber produces some fine guitars and they are regularly reviewed in the Guitarist mag. receiving good points and ALWAYS compared to PRS.
Maybe if it was in that bikini it would have more appeal.

In the eye of the beholder...
Right? But, come on, Peter, that is nothing close to a Telecaster. It has a carved top, humbuckers, probably a shorter scale than a tele, probably has a set neck vs. the tele bolt-on arrangement, maple cap on a mahogany body right?, and those dolphins are right out of the Robin book.
If you love it, buy it and cherish it. That won't make it a Tele.....but it might make you happy. I think every Tele player should have at least one Gibson type of guitar. |

I 'swear-to-God-hand-on-the-book', I have the missing link between a 'regular' Tele and that picture.
Check it out and you tell me if mine isn't 1/2 way in-between the two. It's a guitar I'm building presently. Quartersawn Mahogony body with Flamed Myrtle (yes Myrtle, not Maple) top and double-bound. Warmoth 'upcharged' Birdseye Maple neck which I sprayed a nice yellowish amber. All nitro. It'll still be a few months before it's done tho...The rear is exactly the same as the top, a carbon copy, control plate included in the finish. A Telecaster is a Tele shaped body without quilt or flame and not carved top. It should also have a 3 saddle bridge and a Tele pickup at least 1 then its an Esquire. It can have a 6 saddle bridge but to me that looses points.
Anything else is a copy of a Tele. |

Also another good comparison you look at a 57 Chevy and you know right away its a 57 Chevy no question about it. You dont call a 57 Chevy a 58 Chevy cause they look completly different.
Leos original design is a Telecaster/Esquire/Broadcaster anything else that is different from this design isnt a Telecaster just as a 58 Chevy isnt the Classic 57. |

Than this is complete, total, banal, hubris, eh? (especially considering the active on-board EMG Afterburner pre-amp, ...sorry Leo, Love Ya!) ...even tho it sounds just like a gorgeous sweet Tele?
:) ...just ribbin' ya Mark!... http://www.fenderforum.com/userphoto...tml?recid=4158 |

Uh, anyone ever seen a Godin LGX body? Just about the same guitar, it seems to me. Not quite the frilly excess of that one, but the body (and the buckers) are nearly identical.
Here's mine: ![]() I like the idea that someone might consider it to be some kind of Tele, though. Makes me feel better about owning it. (Oh yeah, and it sounds good too!)
