Bought a Squier 51...just to steal the neck!
Man, what a neck on this thing!!!! A big ol' fatty, very, very like a 52ri profile (except the 9.5 radius). Rounded edges just like a MIA. Tuners are even decent. It now is on the partscaster and sounds simply amazing. The beefier neck really added a HUGE amount of sustain and the notes just jump out with alot more authority. Bigger and cleaner at the same time..if that even makes sense. I guess more wood equals more tone?
I played a ton of 51's and they all had different necks. Why the heck is that? I would expect with CNC they would all be pretty much the same. Not the case from what I found. This one was simply huge in comparison. The whole guitar was very, very good. Most I played were pretty good, a few were duds..a couple complete crapola. Overall, I was very impressed with the guitar. Very bright with the knobs wide open, but if you backed off the volume it warmed up very nicely. Shocked at the tele like tones the humbucker could get, and the strat p/u was pretty darn woody (it's an alnico from what I've read). I'm selling the body for xmas funds, but I'm really inspired to get another when the funds are available. Funky tones and looks..what's not to like?? I wish they had these things when I first started playing. It's great to find such decent cheap gear out there these days! |

Another '51 neck thief here...
I've got one on my parts/esquire. A beautiful piece of maple to go with the koa/mahogany body.
Is the '51 neck the same one on the squier tele custom IIs? If so, I might have to pick one up... |
