Delurking - and a question...
I’ve been hovering unseen around these parts for a while now and I guess it’s time to emerge into the open on this exceptional forum.
What a cool resource! I’m planning my first-ever partscaster and thanks to the TDPRI I’ve already been able to sift opinions on pickups, body weight, saddles and a whole heap of other useful stuff. The basis for this project is a killer Warmoth all-maple boat neck I’ve had hanging around for a long long time. Which leads me to my problem. I’ve pretty much decided on a stock blond 1955 tribute, with a swamp ash body and lightly aged finish sourced from certain talented people found amongst these very pages. But then I find myself fantasising about a ’51 style blackguard... and then I realise I’ve never got rid of that dream for a double-bound black Esquire... How do make up my mind once and for all? Strength of will? Self-hypnotism?! Voodoo?!! Again, nice to be here, and I hope to learn a whole lot more. Rick |

There's no "tele police' (ok, maybe there is-) but it's OK to mix and match the features you like from different eras to build your cutsom tele....
...and welcome!

D'oh!
You are so right gls500. But y'know, I think this neck is kind of telling me what it wants to be. Maple fretboard with skunk stripe: so, no Custom Esquire for this baby. Wide-spaced 12th fret dots: 1955 seems right as far as I know (I get the feeling certain parties round here are, y'know, particular about these things!) And '55 gives me a window to combine a white blond finish with a round string tree, plus the option of flat or staggered poles depending what bridge pickup I decide upon. So it all seems to make sense... but these last-minute nerves... maybe I have commitment problems... now where have I heard that before?! Edit: thanks for the welcome WickedGTR! I know there's no tele police... I'm prolly going to blow my authentic vibe with a blackguard and brass saddles anyway... but I just have fun thinking about this stuff! ...and now your badass Hipshot is giving me ideas too...! |

Thanks! yep, Ole Fuzzy's archive is something of a main resource for me right now. It's most highly useful.
Nice to see your 3-way Hipshot pics. Will Ray showed me his a looooong time ago and I've fancied one ever since. Think I'll forget about trying Will's finger-rings and so on though - too many options for my little brain! A G and a B bender would be enough for me, and that can always bolt on afterwards. But right now I'm still chatting with Tommy at USACG about the body and cruising through Angela's and so on totting up parts lists. Fun, fun , fun... |
