I'm thinking of making an Esquire so I was crusing ebay today looking for potential projects and came across this. Something just doesn't smell right. Like, why is the logo black? Didn't they just do that on the MIM Squiers? And what about the tuners and saddles? Anyone know what this tele is?

Loooong LINK made shorter (you need to put the entire url in the first set of brackets with an 'equals' sign, then put an identifier before the next set of brackets... thx! :-)

Thanks for fixing the link. I never have got the hang of that, or posting pics for that matter.

So does anyone else think this might be a squier?

It look pretty accurate . . . I'm comparing it to a few MIMs that I have lying around for parts.

The black strap buttons . . . I don't know about.

On the headstock . . . the Telecaster logo is usually centered on Fender . . . not the bottom of both words lined up straight across.

That's a fairly good price . . . the ones that I get are under $150, and they too are fairly nice.

Its a 1996 MIM Standard not a Squire.

I've never seen a MIM Fender non Squier Telecaster or a picture of one with a solid black logo....... I'm not saying they don't exist .....I just haven't seen one. I have a '95 MIM toploader Telecaster. It has the silver logo with black border. Here's a picture from a previous post on the subject. The upper picture shows an MIM Squier that has clearly had the "Squier" removed.

The tuners were more square and had an "F" on them
The saddles were not the barrel type
The strings went through the body

Ok ............ just learned the following:

Fender® Mexico Highlights...

1987: Fender® Mexico established; String packaging operation begins.
