Did I...
ask a stupid question? The reason I ask is because I was playing a AM deluxe today in Alto Music in Middletown, N.Y., and I hadn't played a Tele(or strat) with the S-1 switch before. Just wanted some opinions on it......

Cool. Does the same thing as a four-way Tele Mod switch, i.e. puts your pickups in series for a much grittier sound. I have the 4-way on two Teles: a 69Ri with original MIM Tele pickups and a partscaster with 52RI pickups. It has a different character with both, but gets you closer to the 80's rock tone with a fatter sound. Costs nothing when not engaged, gives you another tone. May not be a plus for country or some other styles.

It's just a 4PDT push/push switch built into a pot. That said, it's the only switching pot on the market that offers more than 2PDT. So for some uses, it's fantastic. You can do a lot more with it than just the standard Fender offerings.
I particularly like it for series/parallel switching on a Jazz Bass with a blend knob so the blend is bypassed when in series but in the circuit when in parallel.

I have it on my American Deluxe tele and am less than inpressed. To my ears it just muddys up an already warm neck pup and kills any bell like neck tone. I never use it.

Thanks!
I thought it gave a decent fat sound for blues which is what I primarily play. I thought it was pretty cool but my ears don't have the experience that the majority do here. Thanks for the replies! :)

I have one in a Strat...
and would have to say it fits more in the gimmick category. I find that when I'm noodling around the house, it sounds kinda funky but in a gig situation I end up using the regular non S-1 sound. Also, there is an annoying pop sound when you move the switch. I don't know if the Teles do this or not.
