2004 TDPRI Giveaway prize (finally!) Crook Paisley

Hi everybody!

I won the early bird prize in last year's drawing, which was a relic pink paisley Crook body and a GVCG '59 tele neck.

A year later, and I think I have these pieces right where I want them, so it is time to post some pics.

Here's the front:

Here's the back:

I had originally planned on using the GVCG neck with this body, but there was a delay in getting the neck. To speed things up, I yanked the neck off of my '78 Tele to try out this body. When I received the GVCG neck, I bolted it up. Wonderful, but the Paisley looked funny with a rosewood fingerboard. I had this MIJ Squire neck from an '83 SQ Bullet that played great and looked the part, so on it went, with the SQ neckplate and splitshaft tuners.
I had a MIJ steel saddled bridge and bought a set of Chubtone 5-3 pickups off eBay. It sounded great, and everything went along fine. The knobs were out of a stash of old parts we got somewhere along the way, and I think that the rest of the hardware came from StewMac. I will probably be replacing the knobs.
The pink paint under the pickguard doesn't really match the rest of the guitar, but It's close enough. I may change the pickguard later.

Front:

Back:

I ordered a set of Lawrence pickups because I wanted to try them, and got an L-290TL/L-280TN pair. These also sounded good, but were too polite for what I wanted to hear.

I bought a set of Van Zandt 60's pickups out of the Garage Sale (thanks Bill!), and these do it for me! The Glendale "Twang" saddles were bought new, I don't remember where this bridgeplate came from.

Some more shots:

I had a problem with a soft finish though. I received the body in November and didn't start working on it until February (school got in the way). The finish squeezed out from under the neck plate. I blocksanded it and it was fine, but squeezed out again, this time chipping the finish. Oh well, that's why it's a relic, right?

The whole upshot is that I have a wonderful playing, looking, and sounding guitar. My thanks go to Paul for keeping this place up and running, as I have enjoyed it for some time now.

I'll post another post later with shots of where the GVCG neck ended up.

I kept wanting to type Voodoos also, but they are Van Zandts.
I have a Voodoo in an Esquire that is awesome...

I'm not sure about this year, but last year's was November 1.

Thanks for the compliments everyone. It truly is a great guitar.
I only have a few hours playing time on these Van Zandts, and that at low volume through a Crate SS amp, so I'm excited to try the guitar nice and LOUD.

I agree with you on changing the pickguard. You might consider removing the pink paint from the current pickguard and spraying silver paint around the pickup cutout.

Yeah, it doesn't match very well. I thought about respraying, but the pink is almost melted into the pickguard...

I was eyeballing the silver Paisley pickguards that Allparts carries...
