Sighted: Double Bound Custom '69 Thinlines....

The Music Loft in Carrboro, NC had 8 or 9 of them. The guys there said Fender had some double bound 3 color 'burst Thinline bodies lying around with no necks. The double binding is tortoise shell! Apparently the ML guys were talking to the Fender folks and they decided to put (I believe) American Deluxe necks on them and ship 'em. They look pretty cool - the tortoise shell double binding is pretty subtle - and, they're Custom Shop instruments...
It felt like they had Delta Tone pups - the tone control had that funky detent. I think they were listed at $975 or so...

90s Thinline bodies maybe?

You may already be familiar with those, and the guitars you saw may be something different:

If these had vintage bridges like a 69, that would be bodies from the now discontinued 90s Thinline. If they have a modern bridge, they would be 90s Thinlines. They came in sunburst with maple necks, and also in black, white, natural etc...

Not to mention my favourite:

"Gretsch" Sunset Orange with Tortoise binding and guard.

Oh, and a sunburst one with a vintage bridge would be way cool. Especially with a rosewood neck, me thinks. I saw one on eBay and almost bought it, but the auction was ended for whatever reason.

Geir :)

Hey, Geir, I saw one of those cool Gretsch orange Teles at a guitar show with a big F brand. Very lightweight and a killer neck! I think those were limited editions, wish I could have taken it home, but it was expensive! jvc

Would you believe I haven't even seen mine yet, two and a half months after I bought it. It is sitting in a friends house in the US, and every once in a while when I call him he strums it for me, so I shall know it is there... :)

So, how much was expensive...? I called about a guitar today, and it was expensive! Good thing it was on the phone, then I could pretend to still be interested while I was crawling around on the floor trying to catch my breath again...

Geir :)
