Mini-Soda Fun? (ntc - maybe)
Hey folks! Got a business trip planned to go to Chaska, (near Minneapolis) Minnesota in early July. Any recommendations for good music shops/clubs to check out? The only thing I've heard of is "Lee's Liquor Lounge" by way of Dale Watson. Thanks!

Fun Town!
When you're in the Twin Cities, there are a couple things you might want to do. First, contact "Poppatwang", one of the regulars here on the TDPRI - he plays in a couple bands, most notably Lazy Ike & The Daredevils. They often play at Lee's Liquor Lounge http://www.leesliquorlounge.com/. Lee's is a great place for TWANG - thet's where I saw Bill Kirchen and Redd Volkaert - bring your dancin' shoes. A couple other places You might want to take in would be Famous Dave's (BBQ ribs) - they do mostly blues there (saw Anson Funderburgh and Monster Mike Welch) there. Actually, there are a ton of great places to hear live music in Minneapolis/St.Paul. Check out the City Pages for the most up-to-date stuff. http://www.citypages.com/
As far as shops go, there are two that are my favorites. One of the best vintage shops around is Willie's American Guitars in St. Paul http://www.williesguitars.com/ That's where I do most of my shopping - they have some interesting stuff, and it's a great place to hang out. The other place that I really like is a little south of the Cities, but not terribly far from Chaska. Savage Audio makes some of the nicest amps you'll ever see or hear, plus Jeff has a "wall o' Fenders". He has one of every Fender amp up to the silverface era. It's a neat place to visit. http://www.savageaudio.com/ When will you be in this area? That might help pinpoint some of the events that are going on. Whenever you are here, it should be fun - summer in the cities really is pretty active. Have fun! Dean

Thanks!
Hi Dean- thanks for all the great tips! It's always fun to check out the local scene in a new place. Looks like I'll be out in the second week of July, so I'll see what's happening in the City Pages. Hope I can make it to Lee's Liquor Lounge- I've been curious about it since hearing Watson's tune.
Thanks again! Jim |
