Alan Jackson's Guitarist

I know that a lot of one's "sound" is their style of playing, but what effects are used to get his tone? Any suggestions?

Compressor

THats generally Brent Mason. The main effect to get that sound is a compressor. In his video Brent uses a little blue Boss compressor in his rack. The compressor kina pinches the note and the initial pick attack really snaps out.

Brent Mason

Is he the guy that does the solo in Mercury Blues? Love that - so tasteful and a great tele sound too.

that is a great solo. I tabbed it out in the tab section. I love playing that one.

Doesn't Brent Mason do his studio stuff, but Danny Groh tours with him?

Yep that's Dann Groh. He's a really great picker too. Alan said that when they're on the road writing songs, they'll record a demo of it to take back to the studio and Brent Mason has to figure out some of Danny's signature licks for some of the songs!
