Whats with this MIJ Squier?
Check out this one on eBay, rather strange IMO. Body looks like correct SQ Squier, as advertised.
But the neck looks like the later E Series. It has the E Series logos, but no E Series serial number under the Squier, where it should be. ![]() Could the serial number have been rubbed off, or maybe it is some weird transitional variant before the full blown E Series came in? Also, the tuners are not the usual Gotohs style that both SQ and E Series have. Maybe just a GC switcheroo fraud? Hope you guys don't mind the Squier fascination so much, but its as close as I'll ever come to taking apart a vintage guitar, so fun for me anyway! |

I've seen alot of weird MIJ stuff-- JV Squiers with those same tuners, E series Squiers with SQ-style decals, JV serial # SQ models, spot-on 70's reissues with factory Gotoh's....
There's all sorts of weird MIJ models like European market models, Japan non-US export models, etc. Have you seen any of those eBay auctions from Japan? They're pretty crazy, the things they have over there. I saw a 3/4 scale Tele a few months ago. it was before I started hanging out here at TDP, and I'm sure someone linked to it. BTW, no worries about the Squier fascination, I share it! |

Nah, thats probably right. I have a strat, that is the same way. Skinny headstock, E-series logo, Sq serial number on neck plate, same tuners. Lots of transitional periods in fender gear.
