Weber pots

Anyone tried the Weber pots???

I wrote Ted to ask him a couple of questions, his answers sound promising, I hope to try some soon, as I find most CTS pots tighter feeling than I like.

Are your 250k audio pots (listed for amps) good for guitars too?
Yes, they work fine. We have sold a lot of them for guitar use.

What I want is a solid shaft 250k audio pot, that feels loose, and is easy to spin for volume swells and tone pot wah wah effect on tele.
Ours are low friction (turning torque). On our 1M pots, we have three ranges of stiffness, but all the others are fairly loose.

Price is right too, at $1.75 each! The fedex shipping would be more than a bunch of pots! If anyone is ordering from Weber, let me know, and maybe I can tag along on your speaker/whatever order with an order for a handful of pots.

Got some Weber pots in, they look good, and seem to spin easily. Funny thing though, no EIA codes, just 250k on there. I always thought that EIA codes were mandatory??

Edit: heres what Ted Weber says re EIA codes:
No, EIA is just a trade organization. It is no more mandatory as UL and other markings are. It is up to the company to put them on.
Look at Fender speakers starting in the early 70's. They had the speaker manufacturers drop their EIA codes and only put on the Fender part number.

Out of the six 250k audio pots I got, I found 2 that were especially loose, and installed them on my MIJ SQ Squier. They seemed to have to be much easier turning and have a longer taper than the Allparts/CTS EP885 pots on there before. The Allparts pots would fade out at about 1/2 off. The Webers work much better for volume swells and wah wah. (I couldn't get good wah wah before). I'd recommend them. I noticed that the two that were the loosest also had a slight metal on metal grind sound when you spin them, but you can't hear that thru the amp.

I use them in guitars when solid shaft is required unless CTS has been rquested.. easy to solder to also. They haven't been out 30+ years so reliability is an unknown.

If these are the same type of pots I got from Tom a couple of years ago, they're just terrific -- I've had a pair in my partscaster since then and they're still as smooth as silk. The CTS pots Fender uses are also very good, but they are stiffer to turn and if you don't turn them for a couple of weeks they get even stiffer.

I'm too old for "new math", so can somebody please explain how a 1/2" bushing fits in a 3/8" hole?

I'm sure Tom's referring to the *length* of the threaded bushing, not its diameter.

Looks like the prices are "Military-Specification" too! Pretty cheap compared to a $600 toilet seat.

Webers and alpha pots (which they may be but I don't know fer sure) are real nice and work great. I used them on my clones and they work fine. What's great is the price is really nice compared to CTS. Eeeeesh!
