Rob Gjersoe, Texan Telewacker

Just watched The Flatlanders DVD and although I didn't get too wrapped up in the Frontmens vocals, I was blown away by the guitarist....Rob Gjercoe, great tone and real good pickin', one of the best combinations of Straight out CountryTele, Blues and cool baritone slide that I can come up with...Am wondering if you guys could fill in the spaces for me...Any recommended stuff on CD? Solo Albums? Bio stuff whatever...If you don't know about this fella, it is worth buying The Flatlanders, Live in Austin Texas DVD...It is recorded in a Television Studio, with a good sized audience, so it is broadcast quality, with the live vibe...You may be like me and only really get into the guitar playing on this one, but it is worth the price of admission for that alone...No pointy headstocks and hairdo's just guitar playing like ya like it cowboy!

He's not a Texan, he's a Cheesehead!

OK, so he moved to Austin several years ago, but I believe that Rob is a native of Madison, Wisconsin. In the nineties he played with Paul Cebar and Milwaukeeans. He left to play with Robbie Fulks, then Jimmy Dale Gilmore. There should be plenty of good recorded stuff available out there.

Yup, I think he is a cheesehead, though I didn't know about him when I lived there. I've seen him play here in Austin with Robbie Fulks several times -- he often blows in from one gig, plays a few songs, and then heads out the door to the next gig. In addition to all the sideman work (Flatlanders, etc.), he's also got a film-scoring side project in town.
