Leather Thinline Pickguard
This request is admittedly self-serving...
I contacted El Dorado straps about a Leather pickguard for a 69 Thinline Reissue, but they don't offer one yet because of the setup costs, etc. BUT, Bill said that if he got enough requests for one that they *might* begin to offer it. So, I'm asking (begging) any Thinline owners that would be interested in these to contact them and tell them so. They make super quality stuff so it would be top-notch. www.eldoradostraps.com |

Assuming that their products are
"Individually crafted by skilled artisans in the traditional methods of fine saddlemaking, El Dorado leather guitar straps exemplify the fine art of hand-tooled Western leatherwork and hand-engraved metalwork." as quoted on their website, I don't see why doing a one-off custom pickguard would be a problem. Perhaps their method of construction is having a large metal stamp manufactured so they can press the entire pattern at once (not exactly the traditional method of fine saddlemaking OR what I'd call hand-tooled) and making the stamp is cost prohibitive. Either way they are lame IMO. |

Well....I can easily see why Elderado straps puts limitations on what they do and don't do....otherwise they'd become a "one of" custom shop and even if you make everything by hand having to do one or two at a time is very time consuming....having said that, it would be cool if they offered the pickguard....
Nothing Lame about Eldorado Straps though! ...I dabbled in leatherwork in the 70's and even did a couple of Waylon style Tele bodies...and let me say that good leatherwork is very hard to do....and I've seen some Eldorado straps at Gruhn Guitars here in Nashville..They in no way look like a stamped piece of work...If they are doing it by machine, I'd be very surprized...because it looks like world class hand done leatherwork to me...I'd love to own one of their straps YMMV Bill Hullett |

Why'dya have to show us that? I like my old blackguard just the way it is, so I'll have to get another tele to mount that insanely tacky hardware on. I'm thinkin fluorescent red, maybe?
Have you seen this guy's straps? www.medinamade.com/ I want the one with the Easter Island heads. |
