Reranch Sunbursting...1st Effort

I've never had a sunnyburst Tele. (Had a 62ish sunnyburst Strat once - a real one mind you - that I basically traded for a not too expensive used motorcycle - but that is spilt milk - and another story.)

This is a Guitar Mill body. There is white binding on it under the the black. I took off my FIRST attempt on the back. This doesn't look too bad and will probably be a keeper. If the front turns out as well I will be happy.

The plan is to eventually put a B-bender on it.

That's how I spent my weekend. :D

If someone asks why you'd want to blow a whole weekend on something like this, you can certainly invoke Brad Paisley's line.......Time Well Wasted!...

I'm no finish expert, but I know what I like, and that looks GREAT to me. Job well done. How soon can you have mine finished?? :P :P

Thanks guys...

My method? An otherwise dysfunctional life! :D

All seriousness aside...I was perusing the Reranch site once upon a night and I saw that they claimed to have the products to do a four (4) tone Fender sunburst.

So I ordered some up and gave it a try.

All aerosol. Black for the outside. Amber for the middle. A reddish-brown for the brown/red. Thick it goes to brown. The "overspray" combines with the amber for red.

It seems to work pretty well.

After I scrape the bindings all it will take is LOTS and LOTS of clear.

This is the only other sunnyburst I have ever attempted. I applied the shading with analine dyes, alcohol, and cotton balls. The "real thing" is on the right.

That looks awesome, I was gonna try that with my tele but I don't think I'm up to it. My only suggestion would be that the brown doesn't get quite dark enough, that could just be the subtleties of the photograph, though. But it's a whole lot better than I could do, great job.

You are correct sir. It needs a day to dry and then another coat or two or three to build up some more opacity on the brown.

Thanks for the kind words.
