Fender Re-Issue Parts

Here's a quick question for all you:

A while back (few years) Fender offered replacement bodies, and one of them was a 50-ish Tele in Butterscotch. Was the paint Nitro or Poly?

Re: Fender Re-Issue Parts

I believe it was Nitro finished, but the photo looked like a poly clear coat!

I've heard too that Fender are no longer supplying re-issue replacement parts (it's been debated at length on this very forum), and that includes the AV52RI body.

Did Fender really stop these replacement reissue parts due to it being (alledgedly) cheaper to build an AV52RI in kit form?

Or was it to stop fuelling homebrews?

Poly under a nitro clearcoat like the American made vintage re-issues.
Very thick and shiny.

yes indeedy ! too bad 'n so sad too....i think they've hurt themselves in the long run.....

b.t.w., the finish on my '52 replacement body/partscaster is indeterminate....i think it's poly under, nitro top coat.....if'n that makes any sense to ya....i don't know how else to describe it......it's definitely something different from my vintage/nitro Teles, yet it also differs from later Teles with poly...

ok...if it is poly/under nitro/top, what does that mean, in terms of natural wear & tear?

will the paint keep longer than a straight nitro body? will it never look "old" or "relic'd"?

I'm no expert but, you can't put nitro on top of poly. The nitro doesn't stick to the polyester finish and will crack and eventually flake off.
Polyester can go on top of nitrocellulose. The only reason Fender puts nitro on reissues and then covers them in poly is so they can say that their guitars are "nitro finished". The poly on top keeps the nitro from wearing prematurely.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Lewis,

You're wrong...nitro can cover poly...poly can't cover nitro. All the new US vintage reissues have a nitro clear over a poly color coat.
