Got my modded Squier 51 together...

I added a '91 Tele American Std Rosewood neck. The neck is great, but I may opt to sell it and get a Tele rosewood neck that is a bit chunkier.

I already have GFS pickups and am familiar them, so I got the Tele Fatboy for the neck and the Liverpool for the bridge. They sound great! I was gonna put my Duncan Antiquity Humbucker in, but the bracket is squared off and I didn't want to route that area of the humbucker cavity just yet. The GFS still sound snappy with the bright basswood body. The Tele neck pup still has some twang, but it is a bit beefier. The overall weight is fairly light. Should be easy to stand a bit while playing it.

I'm also still waiting to get a push/pull tone pot,but for now it's just the regular tone pot. I've got a dual concentric pot for the volumes for each pup, and I have a mini on-on-on switch between the pots for the pup selector.

Still got one tiny wiring issue I'm working out though... (Rob!!!)

Here's a couple of quick pics till I can take some better ones. The light reflection and contrast doesn't really show off the pups and controls.

I put a Duncan Quarter Pound strat neck pickup in.

I also added a MIJ 62 RI strat neck (minus decal) to it, and it now plays absolutely killer and is my 'go to' rock axe. For just over 100 notes is simply killer, I just added some other parts I had laying around.

Next thing is to get a whitepearl pickguard from our friend the Pickguardian.

Essex, was there much play with the Strat neck as far as the fit? I was thinking maybe a 62 RI Tele rosewood neck might be a better change up for me for this.

I just bought a set of GFS Fatbody pickups for my Tribute ASAT, including the new bridge model. I haven't installed them yet, but your description sounds like what I'm after - twang with beef.

I'm pretty impressed with those `51 Squires as-is. I wish I knew electronics and could install a tone pot and I would probably have one right now.

A lot of the current Squires have impressed me as much as anything I've played. Two or three guitars for what you used to pay for one? Hard to resist.

DlxNashvilleLuvr, I'm an electronics idiot. With some great info posted here and some schematics form around the web, it was fairly easy.

I still have a wiring issue where my 3 way switch is only giving me the neck pup on the middle selector. Other than that it's sounding pretty good. Teh only other thing is maybe swap the neck for something a bit chunkier. This '91 Tele Am Std neck is a bit slimmer C profile than most of my other Tele's. Would prefer the same feel between them.

Institute, the was very little play at all, it slotted right in and bolted up fine. Theres a little buzz on the B and E strings due to the neck not having a string tree at the moment.

I say change the neck over. Some folks here liked the original '51 neck but the strat neck is MUCH better to my mind, mind you, it has been played in for about 10 years...it's killer!
