Did I Pay Too Much, just enough or good deal ??

$850 shipped to me from NY for this refinished 1976 tele.

http://www.telemanguitars.com/showgp...enmay02&pnum=1

(the pic of the back shows a shinny area, looks to be sanded, but I've got other pics and that's not the case, just a reflection).

matching body and neck numbers, non-original bridge pickup and replaced volume pot and maybe capacitor.

Looks to be original frets in very good condition, no finish work on the neck, original F keys and neck plate, hard shell fender style case included. Supposed to be under 6 lbs (guy's bathroom scale says 5 lbs) and the shop favorite.

I'm thinking i got a good deal, but we'll see when it's in my hands. These olde teles won't be going down and the only way I could get into one is a refin.

So, what color for a Mark Jenny finish? Should I try to find the OEM color on the guitar or go with a custom color? Surf Green, Sherwood Green?

Now I really got to sell the Muddy.

Looks like a great deal to me. I would have jumped at that price. The refin looks good, I've seen lots of 'em that have a similar color from the factory. The big plus with this guitar (I personally think) is the weight. If that guitar is really 5 lbs we may have a new 70's low weight champ. Hope it sounds as good as it looks.

Man, I'd say you got a deal. A quick search of 1974 -1978 Telecasters on gbase.com showed one other refin for $1,500, with most originals priced at $2K and UP (way up). Hope it turns out to be a great guit. :-) (And that red is pretty snazzy, IMO – you never know but what you might grow to like it...) Congrats, CS :-)

Congratulations on a great Tele! I would keep that red, I love red with a maple fretboard, but think about replacing the pickguard - maybe pearl white, or whatever it's called?

Thanks everyone, I'm dang excited.

I'll have to tell my wife about it sooner or later.

Later is good.

If the black pickguard is original, I'll keep it and choose the body color (if I go to restore) to go with the PG.

"Really nice! You gonna put some Hamels in it?"

PB, I do have a set waiting for the next guitar (standard plus neck, standard bridge, deguassed) and this might be it.

I'm not discounting the pickups that are already installed without hearing them, but I'm ready with replacements.

good deal !

this one looks cool too...even though it's a partscaster...it's using top-shelf parts...easily worth it..

http://www.telemanguitars.com/showgp...04fen02&pnum=1

2002 Fender Telecaster Blonde - This is a parts-o-caster, starting with a Warmoth birdseye maple neck and ash body, professionally finished by a local luthier. The parts are first-rate - Barden pickups, Vintique bridge, saddles, knobs, control plate and neck fastening system. Bakelite pickguard and reissue vintage tuners complete the package. The parts alone would cost you more on ebay, and the workmanship is on par with a Custom shop piece. Comes with Fender tweed reissue case. - $1095
