I'll be there. :D
For those old-timers who remember the name (and who of us could forget), the John Cowan Band is performing after Jorgenson on Sunday, featuring none other than Noam Pikelny on banjo.

Cool
I didn't know that. Unfortunately I can only do Sunday.
If you make it on Saturday, check out MIke Esposito in the acoustic tent; he's a monster slide player.

John Cowan and Jorgenson are there Sunday, so you'll miss the Tele guys, but you'll catch Noam. The rest of the band smokes as well, I'm told.

I saw Kirchen here in Minneapolis about a month or so ago. This was my first time and man was I impressed. He played a bunch of great tunes including "Sleepwalk" and a medley of guitar player imitations that was at turns hilarious and jaw-dropping. Great guy, great show.

This will be my first Mike Stern Show
I'm really looking forward to it.
BK doesn't have a bad show in him I think, he's so entertaining I'd watch him restring and tune for an hour and enjoy it.

Saw Stern with Miles WAY back when - monster player. As for Kirchen, I caught him at Bethlehem Musikfest last year playing solo. I'm definitely looking forward to hearing him with a band.

Bill Kirchen
Saw Bill in Austin Wednesday night at Threadgill's South. He played a song that I'd never heard before and told a story about how it (the song) had gotten him and the Commander Cody Band thrown out of Nashville, which he professed was a good thing in retrospect (my words not his). The song was not "kid friendly", in fact X-rated, but was funny as "Heck".
Don't think he will play that one again on the 11th of September at Gruene Hall. I think I'll go that afternoon just to check however. His Gruene Hall shows are always alot of fun and usually include the Trombone, sometimes on the table-tops.

In my humble opinion
BK is not capable of a bad show; yesterday's set only makes this clearer to me!
Milk Cow Blues featured Bill on the trombone.

Bill was as good {or better} than I've ever seen him......he just keeps amazing me.
From the roar of the crowd, I'd say he amazed about a thousand other people, too... I stayed in my seat for about 1-1/2 songs, then went right up front & danced with my kids. Great gig. Didn't stay for Stern....wanted to, but it was raining & the wife & kids "didn't have it in them" mn |
