Tele body shape near jack

This might be a stupid question but its one that has been bothering me and I can't find the answer to. Why do some bodies on Teles have a flat spot near the input jack while most bodies are curved near the jack. Is this something Fender did during select years or what?

It's because the jack cup is flat, and the body is round. It's usually most noticeable on bound bodies.

that flat spot's been there since day one....
i agree it is a bit more apparent on some Teles than on others (probably due to individual shaping/sanding, etc), but it's always been there....

IIRC early telecasters (or esquire/broadcasters/nocasters) were milled flat in that area also, where more recent teles are not.

    AMEN! Fuzzy

Everyone, even newcomers should use, or learn to use the SEARCH function/tool. Maybe the moderator or webmaster could permanently post some guidance/instructions on how to properly use the SEARCH function.

I see so much stuff repeated it's annoying sometimes..

It is just so easy and you can "serv-yo-seff" and don't have to wait for the answer you are looking for.

    well actually.....

I beg to differ with conventional wisdom here....on my original Nocaster 0514 it "Did Not"have a flat spot and many other early Teles didn't (at least by my observation) But I bet the answer to this and much more will be in the Blackguard Book authored by Nacho and soon to be released....I know he's got at least a few pictures of that nocaster in there cause he now owns it!!!!!

    That was me...

I didn't mean to say that one shouldn't suggest a fellow TDPRIer to use the search engine. I use it, and it’s very useful.

What I meant to say was that when sometimes I see guys posting something like “Do you think compensated saddles would make a difference in my tone?” Or, “hey guys, I just got a Tele and I’d love to play some country. What amp would you recommend for less than 500 bucks?” I don’t like seeing that the first reply is “we’ve discussed that to death. Use the search function of the board.” I believe the spirit of these questions is to debate the issue being posted. This is Telecaster forum; of course every single thing has been discussed to death. Answering “use the search engine” sounds like “don’t bother us with those things.”

It’d be like me telling a client who asks me to design something “Oh c’mon… Engineers have been designing these things since the 1950’s. Why don’t you google your question. The answer might be there. Good day”

This is my personal opinion, of course. YMMV.

    Sorry for hijacking the thread…
