Novice needs help from the experts
Hey everyone,
I'm stationed at Osan AB, South Korea. This past weekend, I found a Tele with the sn 339682. Blonde paint job, maple neck, headstock was darker than the neck. They were asking $3000. It was in VERY good shape, with some paint wear as expected. Sounded great, except for a nasty hum when I wasn't touching the strings. Any idea as to how old this guitar might be? And, if it's worth $3k, how to eliminate the hum? Any help is GREATLY appreciated. |

First of all let me preface this by saying ....... I'm no expert.
The serial number you give indicates a date of 1972. The Vintage Guitar Price Guide 2005 gives a price range of $2000 to $2400 for a 1972 Natural Telecaster. Here's a great source for information on old Fenders http://www.provide.net/~cfh/fender.html Any guitar with an asking price of $3000 should warrant a thorough inspection .........removal of neck, control plate, pickguard etc. If they won't allow that........................" ♫..Just walk on by ♫........."
