Tele Content on PBS
I usually watch Sound Stage and Austin City Limits on Saturday nights but tonight seemed to be Tele night on PBS.
On Sound Stage was Heart. Nancy Wilson played a blue Tele with a matching headstock and Rosewood board. It had a six saddle vintage bridge and looked a bit reliced. I have always been a big Heart fan but never associated a Tele with Nancy. She was playing through a pair of Orange cabs and appeared to have a couple of Fender Tone King amps off to the side. Then, on ACL, Susan Tedeschi had her familiar Tele with all of the autographs on. She's got a great voice and is a good player as well. She plays mostly on the neck pickup and her tone is unlike anyone else's. Not sure what amps she was playing through, but one looked to be a Bassman 410. Not sure what the other one was but it was a Silverface of some sort. It was great to see the Tele getting it's due. |

After a while, I realized that despite all the guitar switching and very good musicianship overall on everyone's part, the Wallflowers are a pretty boring act -- about 3/4 of their songs sound very similar to each other. They could take some cues from Dylan's dad's generation, e.g. Tom Petty and band, who manage to convey a consistent personal style via Petty's McGuinnish vocal timbre and first-rate lyrics while delivering enough variety in their song selection and arrangements to keep things interesting musically. The Wallflowers seem to have all the pieces, but imo they've never really put the puzzle together. Nice old Tele, though.... |

I keep forgetting to tune in on Saturdays, really should write myself a post-it or something to help remind me. Did manage to catch Wallflower's on Conan though, good stuff there.
I believe Wilco played a tele on ACL, or am I just imagining things?
