What do these bidders know that I don't
Up for auction is a Telecaster neck of unknown manufacture I don't think this neck is worth 222.50. but 17 bidders disagree I guess.

I'd guess they think its a Custom Shop neck. It could be a fake but those Custom Shop logos don't usually turn up on a fraud. At least the seller is way up front about his lack of knowledge about what it really is. I'd say it's worth that -- Imagine that you buy that, and create your very own Custom Tele?
Paul Green PS. I can imagine a dishonest person might try to make a Tele out of this and sell it on Ebay as a CS Custom Tele for a hefty rip-off profit. |

looks like a nice neck. Could be off a muddy waters, but i dont think so, from the truss rod adjustment nut location. Nice piece of rosewood, on it though.
Hard to tell, what it is. I have my suspicions about the buyers intentions, down the road, as far as honestly stating it is not a custom shop neck.

I have a stack of them that were sent to me as an "extra" one time. I've never used them, but if I have them, someone else probably does, too.

Kinda makes ya say Hummmmmm. . .
Kinda makes ya say Hummmmmm. . .
The edges are too round, or soft, like it was hand sanded by someone that knew nothing about refinishing, The Truss Rod adjustment nut is full of polishing compound, and it appears relatively new like the nut hasn't been adjusted since it was polished. No string tree hole...so the neck almost certainly was never used. And no impressions where the tuning keys were mounted. And the biggie, “Unknown Manufacture”. It makes me wonder where all the stuff comes from. All these guys that list stuff that they don’t know where is came from. Like what, they just rolled over one morning and there it was laying next to them in their bed? What, did they pick it up in a drunken stooper at some bar on Saturday night? When a seller starts throwing around ambiguous statements like “I don’t know”, in e-Bayonics its code for watch out, here it comes. It’s a weasel clause for claiming they didn’t know about the loose frets, major warp, or whatever. While it actually wasn’t P T Barnum that said it, it was one of his competitors; it still has application in this situation. There are indeed enough suckers out there to go around. Anyone know what Caveat Emptor means? Ron Kirn |

Caveat emptor is Latin for "let the buyer beware".
Here is the textbook Latin definition:
Before statutory law, the buyer had no warranty of the quality of goods. In many jurisdictions, the law now requires that goods must be of "merchantable quality". However, this implied warranty can be difficult to enforce, and may not apply to all products. Hence, buyers are still advised to be cautious. [/b] |

The crucial evidence is, of course, that the CS logo is "under the finish". No CS logo is ever 'under the finish', unless it is one of the plain old embossed logo's. The black ones are always printed on the top of the finish. That, and the fact the rest screams fake.

Not sure about the neck in question but I have 3 Custom Shop necks - and each has both a red ink Custom Shop stamp (looks like the decal at headstock) at the heel and "Vasquez"(sp?) stamped there as well. Also a stamped date and guitar model handwritten at the butt end. All under the lacquer. Anything is possible in guitar
