saw this on another site..........

TED GREENE passed away 7/25/05

"sorry to bring bad news to you all...
but i received a call when i was soundchecking at my baked potato gig last night here in LA.
apparently, from what i heard, ted was found in his teaching studio apartment after he didn't answer the call to ring in a student.
this is such a loss, especially for the guitar community.
i am truly sorry for the loss of this real musical genius and one of a kind educator...he has touched many MANY people with his knowledge and abilities over the years! "

What a terrible loss.I bought Chord Chemistry about 25 years ago.It was too much for me then (and still is).None the less I dip into it every year and learn another few moves

I just bought his CD recently which I also highly recommend.

Lastly I read an interview in Just jazz guitar some time ago:he seems to have been a very likeable person with a keen mind and a great love of telecasters

He'll be missed

I haven't seen him around here in quite some time, but he's been a sometime TDPer. It's a shame he's gone.

A former student of his told me how it seemed he could pick up a student's guitar and it suddenly sounded like he pressed a "sound good" button

His solo CD is just masterful - I hope some more recordings will turn up in the future

That is a tragic loss. His original "Solo Guitar" album, recently reissued on CD (see pic) is simply mind-boggling. I've heard a number of guys (Joe Pass, Bucky Pizzarelli, Lenny Breau, Chet Atkins, etc.) play moving bass lines with chords and melodies, but at times Ted's stuff really sounds like two people playing at once. (And of course, he played it on a TELE...) :-) Plus there are the various books he published that made a valuable contribution to guitar education. Just an amazing talent. RIP TG. – CS

was (and still is) a mind-boggling peice of work. When I first opened it up it looked like a set of football plays from another galaxy. I finally screwed up the courage to call Ted around 1980 to take some lessons. He was living in his parents' house (in the Valley, if memory serves), and he couldn't have been more gracious or patient. He would interrupt a lesson to scoop up one of the cats running through the room. For a reason I can no longer remember, I stopped going- probably because I felt overwhelmed and not ready to receive that level of study. Still, I clearly remember being in the presence of someone through whom music just flowed, like breathing, effortlessly, without making it seem like work. Just being around people like that makes you want to be a better player, maybe even a better person.

Hey Jere, on Friday Hug and I were having lunch and he was on the phone to Ted. Apparently Hug and him were friends for 40 years and Hug was about to embark on a film documentary on Ted. Hug had been trying to reach him all weekend, but apparently Ted had a heart attack Sat sometime. I send Hug an email Monday nite and he read it as he was getting dressed to drive over to Ted's to find out why he couldn't reach him all weekend. Would have been a great reminder of his talent. Real loss!

I have two of his books and like others have said, I open them now and then to expand my abilities. The pictures on the cover made him look so blissful and happy to be making music. I always thought the mods he did were overkill, but they impressed me just the same. I'm really sad to hear this. At least he got to share is knowlege with a lot of people over the years.

Extremely generous guy, as regarding his formidable knowledge; highly organized, highly curious; one of the greatest educators of our time; responsible for busting many of my ruts; as best I know, an old soul with a huge heart for music. Huge loss to all of us. Huge. Thanks for the education, Ted.
