Just an observation.

This seller, who many of us know a bit about, typically has high prices protected by reserves. Here, he bloats that it is an old school no reserve auction. However, he then makes is a private auction.

It is, possibly, a basic setup for shilling. Not only can he keep from selling it at a price that is not high enough for him, he can drive the price skyward. This seller also has operated under multiple IDs, and with partners. There are few legit reasons to keep the bidders private in this instance, and he does not usually do that with his reserve auctions.

I used to have one of those in black, it was my first Tele.
I hated that guitar! Baseball bat neck, sticky gloss fingerboard, heavy body. I took out the mudbucker and stuck a single coil in there, but it still wasn't no real tele.
Yuck.

tune_o_matic's for real

I bought a 1975 Tele (a Lefty) about 2 yrs ago, on E-bay from him. (Brown, walnut , ? mocha? I forget the correct colour name)

Not a custom like this , just a regular tele , but it's in that under the bed - time capsule condition. Nothing altered, original case.

At the time it was the most I ever paid for a guitar, but it's worth even more now. It's crazy (and I don't by guitars as an investment - I buy them becasue I love guitars) , but buying one of these things is a better investment than the stock market. (which to me is like finding out that drinking is actually good for you)

I don't know how or where he finds these things , but he does some how.

A far this model goes, (as with late model Tele Basses), In my opinon - the extra routing away of the wood and the need for wider longer pick guard to cover up all that ugly routing, just departs to much from the orignal "DNA" of the originals.

Having said that - it's a piece of history, that can't be denied.

Well, unfortunately on a least a couple of occasions he "found" the parts on separate guitars. :-| There was a former TDPRIer who followed his auctions closely (translation: obsessively) and spotted some instances where the guitars were clearly pieced together from different sources. (Btw, I'm not saying that yours is anything less than was represented, by any means, or that the seller is still doing that, but he had engaged in the practice in the past.) Just FWIW. – CS

What I always wondered until I found out why was how on earth did he find all these guitars with hangtags and everything just as it was opened new.

From hanging around guitar shops and looking at Vintage guitars since the early 70's I know finding anything with hangtags is pretty rare as everyone usually throws all that stuff away.

So after doiing some research I found out under da bed aka tuneomatic was an ex Fender employee. My guess is he has boxes of 70's hangtags and other stuff to make em appear as new.

He always has great pics and his stuff brings top dollar. EBay is the perfect place for him to do business at. Think about this what if you worked in a guitar store and some guy brought in a new lookimng guitar each week with hangtags and everything as new. JUst using plain and simple logic dont you think someone would wonder how he finds these things when they really dont exist that often in the real world well the answer is he creates them cause in real life they dont exist that often.

I have seen over 1000 guitars he has sold all with hangtags new cases etc. Im sure this is his busness and main source of income so as long as he can pull it off I guess he is having fun.

Looks like its gonna sell for over 4k!
