Hilarious setup recommendation!

Just browsing for some how-to info on painting a three colour sunburst when I stumbled across this website telling you how to build a guitar: In setting the pickup height it says:

'Adjust the pickup height. The gap between the strings and the pickups is best adjusted by trial and error. Start with a 6" gap. Use the pickup mounting screw to experiment until you get a sound you like."

Now I know some folks like a higher action for slide, but six inches seems to be overdoing it!

See the site: utterly useless. A beautiful white binding appears on the guitar without so much as a mention!http://http://makeprojects.com/Proje...1#.UFrIDaTyYxM

A 6" gap - I think you'll find that's for guitars from Fender's Top of the Beanstalk range.

Fi fo fi Fender . . .

I guess that could be considered
a hilarious type-O. How many of
us are above that? Laugh at our
selves?

"Trial and error" is the best way to
adjust the pickup height. It's what
works best.

Your link doesn't work.

Thanks Andy!

Thanks Andy/Blackwater for the link. Really good one. V interesting that he's recommending a dark walnut rather than black for the final layer.

6 mm may be what was meant. Still a wide gap for a starting point, but many of my guitars have pickups farther away than 6 mm, and it's a lot closer than 6 in.

Maybe his guitar has those early DiMarzio "heat seeking"
humbuckers.
Those things were pretty high gain!

Nothing funny about it at all. That Web site's content is created by a script, for the sole purpose of harvesting page views and clicks from unsuspecting folk led there by search results. There are many thousands of such sites polluting the search results from any search engine, making it much more difficult to find what we're actually looking for than it was even five years ago.
