Can't wait!

Some of you noticed that I sold my California Fat Tele a week or two ago. It went to one of our brothers and here's what the gettus is getting me and it should all be here soon (like this week!).

* A pair of Weber P12QA speakers for my BF Pro Reverb. Ted said there really wasn't a QA designation, but these are Qs with a curved cone and have smoother breakup. 12A125-A he calls 'em.

* Duncan Seth Lover pickup for the Sheraton.

* Nobels ODR-1

* New setup for the Sheraton (nut recut for better playability)

I got a Vex SHO a week or so ago and decided that it's not really useful for me. I can do the same thing by boosting my amp's volume a couple of notches and rolling the guitar back a little further for rhythm, then cranking the guitar's volume for the leads. Sounds EXACTLY the same, but costs $130 less :-)

I'm thinking about rounding up a Fat Boost and a Blues Driver, then testing all 3 overdrive pedals and selling the ones I don't like. We'll see...

Eryque, you are going to love the Seths in your Sheriton. I'm very pleased with the tones I get from a neck position Seth. It's like they were made for semi-hollow guitars. You should check out the Bad Bob booster from one of our own TDPRI brothers. Lance did a great review a few days ago, so you should be able to find it ( that is, if you have not already read it ) using the search.

I've read lots of good things about the Seths, so I'm excited. I decided only to get one for the neck position to save some dough, and I very very rarely play that guitar in the bridge position alone, so I think I'll be set.

I don't think that the Bad Bob Booster is what I'm after either, these clean boost things just make my rig louder, and I want some added overdrive and a bit of a boost in the mids. I feel like I need a "gain" knob to get that.

I have an SHO and have tested the Bad Bob (see my review titled "Showdown at the Shrine" in the Stompbox section.)

While you can use clean boost pedals to boost your signal, I don't use the pedal to make my signal louder. In fact, I adjust it so when switched on/off, there's no apparent change in volume. What the SHO does do is add the "shimmer" back to your tone. It's like removing a blanket from in front of the speaker. Mine just stays on all the time.

Anyway, give it a try and I think you'll see what I mean.

Well, yeah, but I get that same shimmer just by turning up the guitar's volume knob a notch. I mean, it sounds almost identical to me. Shimmer I don't need, my rhythm tone with just guitar, cord, and amp is great. My lead tone isn't thick enough for me, so I'm looking at overdrives now. Maybe the boost pedal would help if I was runinng the amps nearly full-out all the time, but I'm not.

Ooh, and I almost forgot that I've got a new pickguard coming for Ginger the JD tele so we can go from this:
