Humbucker Tele's

Hey,
I've recently given an order for an American Standard Telecaster.
I would like to know if it is possible to fit a humbucker in the neck position.
Is there a routing/cavity for a humbucker under the pickguard?
What has to be done to fit one in the neck position?

Thanks beforehand :)
Cheers..

The American standard comes w a humbucker route in the neck and middle pickup route. Check out pics on ebay search for American standard telecaster body and the stratospheres auctions will pop up

I've been searching, but can't find a "Std American Tele" body.
Is there a cavity for the humbucker or is it just routed for one?

I bought a Telebration Hot Rod & thought I liked it. Just bought a '52 5-hole pickguard & Fralin +2% neck & changed it. Not a hot rod any more! Love the Fralin single coil neck pups!! Have the matching +2% in bridge. This guitar is right now!!

There is a cavity routed for a humbucker (they mean the same thing).

If a humbucker in a Telecaster is a blasphemy, then I'm doomed!

...never mind the Kahler!

No such thing. It's just a guitar, DWYW.

Ever heard of Keith Richards?

Next you'll be sayin' a Tele has to have 6 strings! ;)

I have the SD 59 in my Road Worn Modern Player.. was disappointed with it too.. The SD mini-humbucker in the Hot Rod blows the 59 away..

I have a Duncan Antiquity full size humbucker in the neck of my American tele. The guitar is routed for a humbucker but if the bucker has long legs you will have to route a little for the legs to fit. My bridge is a Duncan Donahue which works great with the Antiquity humbucker. It is my #1 guitar and works extremely well from Jazz to Soul to Funk to Rock to Country Twang. Install and enjoy!

Horses for courses

Both of these sound very nice.

The second one had a HB in it that just didn't work in that guitar, the Strat pickup stays!

Exactly! I have the SD mini-humbucker in my Brent Mason signature & really, really love it. That is what I judge neck pups by, at least the ones that have 2 coils!!

If you put a humbucker in a single coil guitar, you have a weaker excuse to go buy a guitar with humbuckers.

Go Lollar Regal or Telenator WRHB if you want a HB... everything else (humbucker) sounds like MUD compared to the WRHB... Yes other HB's will "fatten" up your sound, but they don't have the deffinition or the chime that the WRHB has. IMO it's head and ahoulders above all these SD and Gibson "things" people call Humbuckers. I have yet to play a 50's Hot-Rod Tele with the "little" HB in it, but I've played a god-awful ammout of HB guitars and specific HB's and NONE of them copare to the WRHB.

The big question would be if the bodu is routed for a WRHB or just a regular sized HB as they're slightly bigger.

YMMV...

Cheers

Dave
