Telecaster Model Numbers
Hi Everyone!
Is there a model number hidden somewhere on a Telecaster? A local shop has an American Telecaster on consignment for a little under $700 but they can't tell me the exact model number. The serial number shows it was made in 04 or 05 but the guitar is in near mint condition so I'm thinking 2005. Is this a good deal? What worries me a little is since I'm not the original purchaser I won't have a warranty? Should I pay a little more and get one new with a warranty? Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated. Re: Telecaster Model Numbers
Fender Japan has model numbers in the neck pocket. Teles from the US or Mexico do not (or anywhere else for that matter).
From the serial number you can find the year and country of manufacture. From there you can narrow it down by features - type of bridge, decal, tuners, string trees, pickups and so on. Or you can email Mr. Gearhead from the Fender website with the serial number and he'll let you know exactly what it is. $700 is a lot more than what I'd pay for a used US Standard. For a '52 reissue that's a good price if original and in good shape. I wouldn't worry about the warranty but I do all of my own setup and repair work. |
