Spectre Sound and USACG!
You know the old saying about a dumb question being the one you didn't ask?
I spent last week recording in Tacoma WA USA at a wonderful joint called Spectre South with Troy Glessner, who is not only an extremely capable engineer but a darn good man as well. Ditto for his partner Evan Brubaker. If you're ever in the neighbourhood... The thing is, I was so pleased as punch with my 90's Thinline / Van Zandt True Vintage / Morley A+B switch feeding two Vox AC30s that I never got around to asking just what the folks downstairs were up to. With one day left I finally mentioned it to Troy and Evan. Turns out I'd spent the week directly upstairs from USACG!!! After the appropriate amount of head shaking and self-kicking I've taken some comfort in the knowledge that I'll be back in three weeks to mix... And maybe if I ask politely... Best, Joel |

Bummer!!
Hey Joel, you will definatley enjoy meeting Tommy and the gang when you go back to do your mix. Very unassuming, nice, professional youg men who truley enjoy their work. The tele I recently put together from a body and neck purchased from USACG quickly became my favorite. Quality products from quality people. Be prepard to spend some time going through the shop and most of all....be prepared for a major GAS attack! Tell us more about your recording project.

Bummer Is Right!
I could smell the wood being routed...hear the music and the machines...I even knew they were building guitars! I was just so wound up about the session that I didn't ask the most obvious question WHO ARE THOSE GUYS ANYWAY?
So next time I'll have my thinking cap on and see if I can't take a peek around the joint... The band is called Joel R.L. Phelps / The Downer Trio, and the idea was to record a new LP, which if my ears don't deceive me, we managed to accomplish... Should have it out early 2004 on 12XU in Europe and we're working on North America. Spectre Sound is really cool...former Boeing site for something-or-other, then antique furniture restoration and now recording studio. Highlights include giant old wood drum room, ISO rooms, 48 track Skywalker Ranch mixer, 24 track Quad Eight board (yes it's the one in the Steely Dan Photo) 2 inch 24 track analog and Radar 24 / ProTools digital and lots of other goodies that I wouldn't know anything about. In my opinion it is, along with Pachyderm in MN, the coolest joint this side of Chicago's Electrical Audio. Sorry for the long post! Best, Joel [/url] |
