Show us your tele playing wear
Hi all,
Post some pics if you have a tele which is genuinely playing worn (not reliced) but actually used heavily without being mistreated - i.e. pics of worn fingerboards/bodies etc caused by years of practice & gigging. Be interested to see Brian. |

Here's the only one I've got... It's a 1966 neck and apparently a 1968 body. It was painted blue at one point. Some of the wear is from removing the blue finish, but most of it is gig wear or cat sabotage. I didn't have a guitar stand until about 1990.

My Tele playing wear?
OK, khaki cargo shorts, sandals with socks, an LA Gear tank top and wool beanie.

This is my 67 Tele. I strongly assume that it has been refinished a very long time ago, maybe in the end 60ies. It's also thinkable that it had been restored w. the orig. paint after the owner had decided to eliminate the extra holes that had been possibly drillled for a Bigsby. The wear appears to be authentic playing wear as far as i can see it w. a magnifier.
However it's a great sounding player's guitar that i bought for its' great sound rather than for investment reason. The PUs are SD 5/2 in the bridge pos. and a CS Nocaster in the neck pos. The bridge plate is new as well as at least 1 pot knob. Not sure about the other one and the control plate. New switchcraft 3 way switch and new CTS posts. It's a great player's guitar w. quite some boom and just the right twang you expect from these years period guitars. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Well both of mine have a poly finish, so you'll have to wait 50 or 60 years until it starts showing wear. Kinda bummer because I like battle scars on a guitar.

I can't take credit for the majority of the wear because I've only owned it for 6 years or so, but this is by far my favorite guitar. It's an early 1973, original, that (luckily) had a pretty fresh refret with original sized frets when I bought it. I'd have had a hard time letting somebody refret it once I owned it.

Nice guitar Telemach 1.
I just played a 1969 today while amp shopping that had very similar checking, though it was in about 50% better condition as far as nicks and dings go. All original except for a Strat pup rout under the guard that they told me had never been completely finished/installed. The color looked just about exact as far as your photo goes, though it's hard to tell with pictures. It was really hard to resist buying it. The price was $3100 and I may not have been able to hold back if I didn't love my '73 Custom so much. Not sure how good that price is these days, but it could have been my number one given the 30 minutes I spent with it which would make the hurt a little bit easier had a I bought it. |
